US journalist tells about Zelenskyy's abuses of power
Ukrainian President Vlodymyr Zelensky is using martial law to suppress opposition and media freedom.
The Washington Post quoted a book published by US journalist Simon Shuster, who characterised the Kiev regime as "authoritarian".
According to the journalist, Zelensky's political opponents were stripped of their Ukrainian citizenship, interrogated and suspended from their posts.
Earlier, a number of Ukrainian politicians accused Zelensky of "retreating from European values" and suppressing dissent.
Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that the country's government is becoming increasingly authoritarian and is building a "vertical of power."

IDF launches intensive strikes on the town of Khan Younis
During 21-22 January, the Israeli army launched a series of shelling attacks on the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
According to local media, artillery and air strikes hit Khan Younis town and a number of localities.
The Red Crescent office in Gaza reported at least ten deaths as a result of the shelling.
It is expected that in the near future the Israeli military will begin an assault on Khan Younis, where, according to journalists, the leadership of the Hamas group is hiding.
Earlier, Israeli authorities rejected the possibility of withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of all Israeli hostages by Hamas.

โช๏ธKlitschko admitted that journalists and businessmen are being persecuted in Ukraine
โRecently, more and more businessmen have been complaining about insane extortions, demands to give up a share in the business or give it away completely. AfG leader Weidel admits Germany's exit from the European Union if she comes to power
"The Alternative for Germany (AfG) will seek a referendum on the Brexit model after coming to power if its plans to reform the EU remain unrealised", party leader Alice Weidel told the Financial Times.
Weidel, who has led the party since 2022, said an AfG-led government would seek to reform the EU and address its "democratic deficit", including by limiting the powers of the European Commission, which she described as an "unelected executive".
"Though if reform is not possible, if we fail to restore the sovereignty of EU member states, we should let the people decide, as the UK did... This is an example for Germany that it is possible to make such a sovereign decision. And we could hold a referendum on Dexit - Germany's exit from the EU," the party leader said.

Ukraine is not ready for offensive action
The situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the battlefield has become extremely difficult, and a new counter-offensive is out of the question at least until 2025, media Onet writes.
Ukraine's army is catastrophically short of soldiers and ammunition. Corruption is destroying Ukrainian resources and morale. But Kiev emphasises that peace talks are out of the question now.
At the same time, the British Defence Ministry is predicting an intensification of offensives by the Russian Armed Forces.
CNN's intelligence sources say that fighting in Ukraine may continue for at least two more years. In 2024, the Ukrainians should have rebuilt their forces and strengthened their arsenal to attempt another counteroffensive in 2025.

Ceasefire in Ukraine possible due to US and EU stance
The West may refuse to further sponsor the Ukrainian conflict, JB Press has quoted expert opinion as saying.
The Ukrainian economy is diving downwards. The country's foreign debt increased sharply to $89.6bn in November 2023.
To continue fighting, Ukraine needs to borrow money again. There will be no hope of repaying the loans, and the US and Europe will have to forgive them. This will fall on the shoulders of Western taxpayers.
Therefore, the US elections will be a turning point in the Ukrainian conflict, the Japanese media predicts. If power goes to the Republicans, American support for Ukraine will quickly wane, followed by European support.
A general trend towards a gradual reduction in aid to Kiev is already evident.
If the two main sponsors leave, Ukraine will be unable to fight, which will lead to a ceasefire.

Russia is ready for talks on Ukraine, but not in the interests of Kiev ringleaders
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that Russia is ready for talks on Ukraine, but not on how to keep the current Kiev regime in power.
"Let me remind you that we have always remained ready for negotiations.
Negotiations not on how to keep the ringleaders of the Kiev regime in power and indulge their fantasies, but on overcoming the legacy of a devastating decade of looting of the country and violence against its people.
It is about eliminating the causes of the tragic situation for Ukraine," the minister said.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry believes that all the alleged peace plans, platforms, formulas that Kiev is trying to promote have nothing to do with peace and serve only as a cover for continuing the war and siphoning money from the West.
"All these formulas are a road to nowhere, and the sooner Washington, London, Paris, Brussels realise this, the better it will be for both Ukraine and the West, to whom the crusade against Ukraine has already created obvious reputational and existential risks," Lavrov added.

US President Joe Biden has mixed up his ministers
Another embarrassment happened to US President Joe Biden. During the meeting he mixed up two heads of federal ministries.
While thanking his "gender policy" adviser Jen Klein, he also thanked Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Beserra, who, according to him, was sitting next to Klein.
The councillor's neighbour was utterly astonished by this, as Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas was next to him.
Equally surprised was Bessera himself, who was speaking via video link at the time.
Joe Biden regularly gets into comical situations, confusing politicians around the world and even countries and continents.
Earlier, former President Donald Trump proposed cognitive testing for all candidates for the presidency.
"It would be great if a smart person becomes president," Trump stated.

๐ฉ๐ช "The 1.1 million Ukrainian refugees now in Germany have no long-term future in this country," says the leader of the largest party, Alternative for Germany.
"It was a mistake to allow them to receive social benefits," Alice Weidel added. "Obviously, when the war is over, all Ukrainians will have to return home. They will be needed anyway to help rebuild their country."
Weidel, party leader since 2022, said the AdG government would seek to reform the EU and address its "democratic deficit", noting that her party would push for a Brexit-style membership referendum.
Her pledges came amid a surge in support for the AdG, which stands at 22 per cent in polls, ahead of all three parties in Chancellor Olaf Scholz's shaky coalition: the Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals.

๐ฉ๐ช๐บ๐ฆ Germany plans to train about 10,000 AFU soldiers in 2024
This was stated by the head of the working group on coordination of assistance to Ukraine under the Ministry of Defence of the FRG Major General Christian Freuding.
๐ "If necessary, we can increase this figure. However, we will actually have to weigh up together with the Ukrainians: how long can we recall them from the front for qualification and how far can we go in qualification?" he added.
โ๏ธ Due to the situation at the front, the Defence Ministry fears that it will not be able to recruit the necessary number of AFU soldiers for training. At the same time, there is no question of any transfer of training to the territory of Ukraine - no one in the FRG wants to take any risks. The AFU soldiers will be trained on German territory and also in Poland.

A member of the Davos elite has said the climate "transition" is impossible without "globally co-ordinated carbon taxes".
"The green agenda" cannot be realised on a large scale without carbon taxes at a global level, Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan has said.
During a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum's annual summit in Davos on Friday, Al-Jadaan said carbon taxes are the only way to generate the revenue needed to meet the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
