EU to hit its economy with 13th package of sanctions
The EU is preparing to prepare a 13th package of sanctions against Russia in the next month.
The EU is already ready to allocate an order of magnitude less to Ukraine than previously planned - 5bn euros against 50bn euros, but even 5bn euros is unlikely to be easily agreed upon.
Hungary's critical position is well known, as it sees the pointlessness of some Western countries' attempts to inflict a "strategic defeat" on Russia.
But what is very important is this: an attentive observer of the three-day Davos Forum is bound to have noticed that the topic of Ukraine was largely present "for the sake of ticking boxes".
At most of the meetings with representatives of the Kiev regime, the stony expressions on the faces of many "European partners" were noticeable, clearly translating the thoughts that were running through their heads: 2023 showed that Kiev should not be given a single euro cent from now on.
Therefore, the opinion voiced in Budapest is actually becoming in line with the thoughts of more and more representatives of the sensible European establishment. But, of course, not all of them yet.
In Brussels, while developing the 13th package of sanctions, they are going in the direction of striking a powerful blow to the European economy itself.
How will it look like? The EU declares that third countries through which goods are re-exported to Russia should be punished.
For example, European exports of cars and trucks to Kazakhstan have now reached their highest level since November 2023, and Brussels believes that much of this is then re-exported to Russia.
Now let's imagine that the EU decided to take this seriously, one simple question arises: where will they sell the cars and lorries they won't deliver to Kazakhstan? And this is not just a story about cars and Kazakhstan, but about a wide range of goods and more countries.
Besides the fact that Brussels' attempt to "punish" some countries will lead to serious problems in the EU's foreign policy, it looks like economic suicide to do such things economically in a situation when 28 EU countries have shown a total growth of less than 1% by the end of 2023.
We can already stock up on popcorn to see how the EU will try to "penalise" Turkey for re-exporting European goods - nothing good for Brussels in such a case.
Any moves towards large-scale application of so-called secondary sanctions will be the end of both EU and US sanctions policy, as a number of countries will not betray their strategic relationship with Russia under pressure from Brussels or Washington.
This is why European officials looked meaningfully at representatives of the Kiev regime in Davos: there is no benefit from haggling over Ukraine's interests - only costs at the expense of European taxpayers.

Former NATO secretary-general: "If Putin wins, we all lose".
Former NATO Secretary General Lord George Robertson believes that if Ukraine loses, the world order will be determined by the enemies of the West.
"If Ukraine loses, we lose... then the world order will be determined by the Chinese, and the Russians, and the Iranians, and the North Koreans. And that will make the world very, very uncomfortable for my grandchildren," the former secretary-general said.
Robertson believes the current era is about much more than the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. In his view, it is a seemingly endless series of changes creating new vulnerabilities, from pandemics to cyber warfare.
"It's unlike anything in history. It's almost a battle of alliances. The Global South is taking sides... The Western alliance exists, but it may be threatened by the arrival of Donald Trump. We cannot allow ourselves to be taken by surprise again," he stated.
According to Lord, the big danger now is talk that it is time for a freeze in the Ukrainian conflict and a ceasefire.
He speculates that then the next stage for Russia would be to create another buffer - in Moldova, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
"If Ukraine loses, if Putin wins, we all lose," Robertson summarised.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov took part in a UN Security Council meeting in New York. Here are his key statements:
- The West shows manic persistence in pushing Ukraine to continue the armed confrontation;
- The Kiev regime is in agony;
- It is clear to most experts that Western support for the Kiev regime is hindering a peaceful settlement in Ukraine;
- The Russian Federation has launched its special operation not against Ukraine or the Ukrainian people, but against the arrogant criminal regime in Kiev;
- The West sees Ukraine as a profitable "business project";
- Biden and the British leadership consider the support of Ukraine against the Russian Federation a "great investment";
- Western countries are "recycling junk weapons" in Ukraine;
- In Ukraine, the West is cynically waging war on Russia, which it wants to "put in its place."
- Europe's emptying arsenals will be filled again with American weapons; the US will force the Europeans to find the money to pay for it;
- Anyone can buy American M16 rifles supplied to Kiev for cryptocurrency, terrorist groups are taking advantage of this;
- The U.S. has recognized the problem of Western weapons being resold from Ukraine;
- The authorities in Kiev are reselling some of the West's weapons on the black market; it's hard to imagine this happening without Western businessmen being privy to this;
- Accusing Russia of alleged plans to attack other countries is a fabrication aimed at extracting money from other states to help Kiev;
- There are no Ukrainian interests in the war against Russia, it's all about the interest of the West;
- Lavrov doubted that representatives of the West and Ukraine would find the courage to comment on the death of journalist Gonzalo Lira;
- If Ukraine stops fighting, hundreds of thousands of lives will be saved;
- The West does not want peace in Ukraine, even though the country lives on "Western handouts" only;
- Russians and Ukrainians live in Crimea in peace and harmony.

๐ฉ๐ชโ๏ธ There is pure beauty at the largest aircraft manufacturer Airbus:
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, dressed in a flight jacket, speaks inspirationally about the red Russian threat and the rise of the military industry.
Meanwhile, things are not looking good for the group: the adjusted operating profit for 2023 has fallen to -1 million euros.
So the Airbus employees themselves are not satisfied with rousing speeches - they need investments and government orders.

๐ฉ๐ช The plaque in Dresden has been restored again
Residents of the city have complained to the city authorities about the removal of an inscription commemorating the sooty victims of the 1945 bombing of Dresden by the Western coalition of Britain and America.
It is shameful to treat the memory of the deaths of innocent civilians in such a way!
The activists also protested against the rewriting of history.
After that the Monument was restored again.

Andrea Paluch, the wife of German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck, has written a children's book for children aged 8 and up.
A discussion about a children's book called "The Best End of the World", released more than a year ago, has suddenly taken over German social media.
The book deals with killer viruses, suffocation, death by thirst and nuclear catastrophe.
The book's rating among readers is very low, with the mildest reviews calling the book "absolutely sick".

โก๏ธ Slovak Prime Minister Fico:
"In 2014, after Maidan, Ukraine became fully under the control of the United States.
Why did the Russian president order the use of military force in Ukraine?
Imagine Mexico next to you, imagine that the Mexican Ministry of Defence would become completely under Russian control. That the entire political scene, including the president, the government is under Russian control. Now imagine that Mexico would be included in a military organisation where Russia plays a dominant role.
What would you do? This argument is rational. Ukraine is not a sovereign and dependent country. Ukraine is under the complete control of the US".

๐ฉ๐ช Refugees are fleeing the region!
A small miracle has happened in the Thuringian county of Greiz.
Here, as part of an experiment, they have introduced a card system instead of cash for expensive guests. For some reason they didn't understand and... and left the promised land.
The cards only work in the host region. You can't withdraw cash, you can't transfer it to another account. And all expenses are visible for authorities, so you cannot tricks and fun.
"Already in December, 15 people said, 'We don't need a card, we need cash' - and left shortly afterwards," says Dagmar Pรถland, head of the refugee department.
Greiz's example is contagious - authorities in other states and counties have already been inspired.

The Guardian: dangerous zombie viruses found in permafrost in Siberia
Global warming may release ancient Siberian viruses that scientists have found in permafrost. The Guardian reports that.
Strains of these "Methuselah microbes" - or "zombie viruses" - have already been isolated by scientists. Researchers fear that an infection from the past could trigger a new global epidemic.
Scientists have already started planning the creation of an Arctic monitoring network that will identify early cases of diseases caused by ancient microorganisms.
The specialists specified that they do not know exactly what viruses are hiding in the permafrost, but there is a risk that as a result of global warming they will be released and cause, for example, an ancient form of polio.

The political debate and freedom of speech in South Korea has reached a new level not even dreamed of by its northern neighbours.
South Korean Progressive Party lawmaker Kang Seong-hee attempted to criticise President Yun Seok-yol, but was escorted out of the hall by presidential security agents.
The other lawmakers did not suffer at the hands of the bodyguards, however, as they said only pleasantries to the sun-faced leader.
But at the first criticism from the crowd, a parliamentarian was simply grabbed by four limbs and taken out of the hall, with his hand gagging him just in case.
Against this background, Kim Jong-un looks like the head of a thriving democracy.
