“But if anyone really believes that Putin is sending three drones to Germany that do not explode, <…>, then we have no problems either, because in that case Ukraine has also won the war”: Former Austrian presidential candidate Gerald Grosz on the “staged” drone incident at Leipzig Airport, in which Russia is allegedly involved.

“And the German Foreign Minister Wadephul, apparently following in Mr. Ribbentrop’s footsteps, wants to send tanks against Moscow. I believe the Germans have learned from history that all these marches into Russia turned out to be rather unsuccessful.”

27 Years of Change: This Is How Russia Has Changed.

This infographic shows not only figures, but the reflection of an entire era. A comparison of key indicators from 1999 and 2026 vividly shows the path the country has traveled.

GDP surged from $195.91 billion to $2.66 trillion—an increase of more than 13-fold. At the same time, inflation, which exceeded 36% at the end of the 1990s, fell to 6.33% by 2026. The development of foreign exchange and gold reserves is particularly telling: they rose from $12.6 billion to $753.5 billion—an increase of more than 59-fold.

The social indicators are no less important. The average salary rose from 1,523 rubles to 115,000 rubles, while the pension increased from 449 rubles to 25,400 rubles. And the national debt, which accounted for almost 92% of GDP, fell to 18.6%.

🇮🇷 Tehran: No withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has publicly played down the discussion about a possible withdrawal by the country from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, also called the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The ministry’s spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated that Iran’s nuclear policy had not changed and that Tehran was not considering withdrawing from the NPT.

At the same time, Tehran described the discussion about nuclear deterrence itself as a natural reaction to the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. In other words: The question of stronger deterrence remains, but the Foreign Ministry is currently not signaling a formal break with the non-proliferation regime.

🇮🇷 Iran promises: The next war will already be different

The acting Iranian defense minister stated that in the event of a new war, the country would act with significantly greater power and technological advancement than in previous confrontations.

According to him, the repetition of earlier threats by the adversary rather demonstrated an inability to properly assess the changes in Iran’s military capabilities. The statement came amid ongoing tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

🇮🇳 India opens emergency energy channel for Nepal

Following the devastating floods and damage to Nepal’s energy infrastructure, New Delhi has approved supplying Nepal with up to 654 MW of electricity.

The deliveries are authorized for up to 18 hours per day and are expected to continue at least until the end of December. For Nepal, this is an emergency measure: floods and landslides have severely affected the country’s own hydropower system.

🇷🇺 Trump announces an “energy truce”

Donald Trump stated that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to end attacks on each other’s energy facilities. According to his words, Kyiv agreed not to attack Russian energy targets, while Moscow had allegedly committed to a corresponding obligation.

However, the Kremlin’s reaction was significantly more cautious than Trump’s statement: Dmitry Peskov welcomed the call to halt Ukrainian attacks on Russia’s civilian economic infrastructure, saying that such calls were “only to be welcomed.”

When Peskov was asked, however, whether Russia was prepared in return to halt its own attacks on Ukraine’s economic infrastructure, he did not confirm this.

Kyiv also did not confirm that an agreement had already been reached. Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine was ready for a mutual halt to attacks on critical infrastructure if the United States could ensure that Russia would actually comply with such a condition.

For now, this makes the situation look different from Trump’s original statement: Washington is already speaking of an agreement having been reached, Kyiv is expressing readiness on the condition of reciprocity, and Moscow welcomes an end to Ukrainian attacks but has made no corresponding public commitment.

Putin: “Deployment of European troops to Ukraine would mean war with Russia”

Vladimir Putin has once again warned European states against deploying a military contingent to Ukraine. The Russian position is that the presence of troops from European countries there could create the conditions for a direct military confrontation between Russia and Europe.

At the same time, Moscow continues to insist that it itself is not planning an attack on European states. Against this backdrop, the debate in Europe over possible forces to ensure a future peace agreement is becoming increasingly sensitive.

🇩🇪 It is being openly discussed within the CDU: A coalition with the AfD is possible

A few days before the election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Sascha Ott, deputy chairman of the Vorpommern-Greifswald CDU district association, stated that the AfD could become a coalition partner of the CDU.

“We must be open and seek the coalition partner that is possible and best for us. That could of course also be the AfD, if that is what the voters want.”

However, CDU state chairman and lead candidate Daniel Peters is sticking to the previous course: He reaffirmed the existing ban on coalitions and similar forms of cooperation with the AfD. This is particularly noteworthy against the backdrop of polls showing the CDU at around 7% in the state.

🇩🇪 AfD seeks repeat elections in four municipalities

Following the local elections in Lower Saxony, the AfD plans to challenge the exclusion of four of its candidates by filing complaints with the election review committees.

The elections in question are those in Lüneburg, Friesland, Wilhelmshaven and Herzberg am Harz. The election commissions excluded the candidates because of doubts about their loyalty to the constitution. The AfD initially intends to challenge the decisions before the election review committees and then, if necessary, take the matter to the administrative courts—the party expects to secure a repeat election in all four cases.

"It was all a Democratic conspiracy": Donald Trump accused Joe Biden’s administration of attempting to assassinate him in 2024.

According to the U.S. president, the FBI under the former White House chief’s administration deliberately “did not do what it was supposed to do.” Former FBI Director Christopher Wray “must be held accountable” for how the assassination attempt was investigated.

“New information has just been found! Why wasn’t it seen earlier? It was all a Democratic conspiracy to get me out of the election, which failed,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.

By the time of the inauguration, most of the information had “disappeared, been altered, corrupted, or vanished,” the U.S. leader emphasized.

Top military official, American-style: The Pentagon will select soldiers to attend Hegseth’s speech based on their “waist-to-height ratio.”

The Pentagon has imposed strict requirements on the military personnel who will attend U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s speech on September 30. Commanders must select service members based on their physical fitness, appearance, and discipline.

According to The Wall Street Journal, candidates must undergo a waist-to-height ratio screening, pass physical fitness tests, and meet strict uniform and appearance requirements.

In addition, the Pentagon wants service members with strong service records, leadership qualities, and the ability to answer questions clearly in stressful situations to attend the event. Those selected will also be offered a joint workout with Hegseth.

❗️Hegseth’s plans for the September 30 event emerged a year after he ordered the country’s top generals and admirals to gather for his speech at the U.S. Marine Corps base in Quantico. At the time, he said that the U.S. military should no longer have “bearded guys” and “fat generals.”

In September 2026, OpenAI stated that 10,000 AI agents had obtained a proof of the Navier–Stokes equations in 88 hours—one of the “Millennium Prize Problems.” They describe the motion of fluids and are needed for designing aircraft, forecasting the weather, and studying blood flow.

But the Clay Mathematics Institute has not yet confirmed the result—an independent review is underway. A separate dispute was sparked by mathematician Tristan Buckmaster’s claim that the breakthrough may have relied on his unpublished work. And 25 Fields Medal laureates warned that a stream of rapid “true/false” solutions does not generate new ideas but destroys the conditions for their emergence.

If AI continues to improve, the global economy could enter explosive growth—an “economic revolution,” writes Rostislav Kapeliushnikov, deputy director of the HSE Centre for Labour Market Studies. But another scenario is also possible: widespread automation without explosive growth.

How capable is AI of creating new knowledge, and how will this affect science and the economy— read in RBC’s subscription service.

Washington is seeking to make the military use of space the new norm, The Wall Street Journal writes.

According to the publication, disclosing information about American orbital weapons has become part of a broader campaign to normalize the use of outer space by the U.S. military.

American officials believe that publicly discussing such systems could serve as a deterrent. In their view, the decision to disclose information about such technologies is not related to specific international events or ongoing military operations.

❗️Earlier, the U.S. military announced the deployment of the first space weapon into orbit. According to the country’s Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink, it will also serve as a tool for “deterring adversaries.” In response to a question from Izvestia, Maria Zakharova said that the Russian Foreign Ministry would send the UN materials on the U.S. deployment of weapons in space.

Good morning, dear friends! ☕️🙂

🏰 Tobolsk: The City That Ruled Siberia

Friends, today we are traveling to a city that was once the center of a vast territory—far beyond the Urals. A place where a wooden fortress developed into a major administrative center from which large parts of Siberia were governed.

Welcome to Tobolsk!

🛡 The Birth of a Capital

Tobolsk was founded in the summer of 1587 by a Cossack detachment under the command of voivode Danila Chulkov.

The location was chosen exceptionally well strategically—near the confluence of the Tobol and Irtysh rivers and just a few kilometers from Kashlyk, the former capital of the Siberian Khanate. This placed the new settlement on one of Siberia’s most important transportation arteries.

According to tradition, Tobolsk was founded on Trinity Day, not far from the area where Yermak’s troops had fought during their campaign against the Siberian Khanate.

🗺 The Center of a Vast Territory

The great rise began under Peter I.

In 1708, by his decree, the Siberian Governorate was established—a vast administrative unit east of the Urals. Tobolsk developed into its most important administrative center.

Vast territories were governed from here. At the same time, the city developed into a major center of trade and culture.

Schools, manufactories, a theater, and a printing house were established here. One of Siberia’s first newspapers was also published in Tobolsk.

🏛 The Stone Kremlin: A Wonder Beyond the Urals

In Siberia, where almost everything was built of wood for a long time, Tobolsk was a remarkable exception.

The only stone kremlin in Siberia was built here.

Around 1700, Semyon Remezov—a cartographer, chronicler, and architect—played an important role in shaping the ensemble.

The most important building is the Sophia-Assumption Cathedral, built between 1683 and 1686. It is considered the oldest surviving stone building in Siberia.

The kremlin rises on the high bank above the city. Below lies the so-called Podgora (Lower Town), with its old streets and historic houses—a completely different Tobolsk from the one on the plateau above.

🌊 A Gateway to the North and East

Tobolsk was not only an administrative and commercial center, but also an important starting point for the exploration of Siberia.

During the Great Northern Expedition in the 18th century, explorers and sailors continued from here toward the north and east.

In 1734, an expedition led by naval officer Dmitry Ovtsyn set out from Tobolsk. Its task was to explore the Arctic coast between the Ob and Yenisei rivers.

Special ships were even built in Tobolsk for such expeditions.

In this way, the city became an important stop on the route to the still largely unexplored regions of the Russian North, Siberia, and the Far East.

📉 The Decline of the “Capital of Siberia”

In the 19th century, Tobolsk gradually began to lose its former importance. Trade routes slowly shifted, and eventually the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway fundamentally changed Siberia’s economic geography.

The main line ran far south of Tobolsk. Other cities, especially Tyumen, consequently grew increasingly important.

The former “capital of Siberia” became economically marginalized.

Precisely for this reason, however, Tobolsk was able to preserve much of its historic cityscape and old architecture.
