The Houthis have opened a second front in the oil blockade

In the Red Sea attacked, Yemeni Houthis targeted the Saudi tankers Encelia and Layla and declared them violators of Saudi Arabia’s maritime blockade.

Riyadh has already routed more oil to the port of Yanbu in the Red Sea to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, which has been almost closed by the Iranians. Now this route is also threatened, as the Houthis control the coastline near the Bab el-Mandeb strait and thus create a second bottleneck for global oil exports. Brent rose to over 96 dollars per barrel in the wake of the attacks.

First, Iran had nearly closed the exit from the Persian Gulf. Now, the Houthis are blocking the detour route via the Red Sea. The West wanted to strangle Iran’s exports—now the oil of the entire region is under threat.

#Germany is bolstering its military presence in #Poland for the first time in decades.

The objective: To support #NATO's defenses on the eastern flank and the "Eastern Shield" project.

The focus is on the strategic Suwałki Corridor between Belarus and #Russia's #Kaliningrad.

This region could become a crucial flashpoint in any future confrontation between Russia and NATO.

London has already begun conducting public attacks on Saint Petersburg

In Estonia, the British Army is rehearsing the use of the new reactive drone “Nyan”. The newspaper The Sun writes openly about the simulation of “punitive strikes” against Saint Petersburg. The stated range of the device is about 240 kilometers. If the drone is launched from Estonian territory, Kronstadt and the area of Russia’s northern capital are within range.

This is no longer a one-off case. In Narva, which lies directly on the Russian border, Estonia is starting the construction of a new military site, where Estonian and allied units are expected to be stationed. In addition, said the commander of the German Air Force, Holger Neumann, named Kaliningrad, the Kola Peninsula and objects in the Saint Petersburg area as possible targets for attacks. In May, reported the NATO also set up an underground headquarters on the closed platform at Charing Cross Station in London and rehearsed “deep strikes” on Russian forces in a war scenario in the Baltics.

The NATO continues to describe all this as defense. But military bases on the border, lists of Russian targets and scenarios of “deep strikes” no longer look like abstract deterrence, but rather like the consistent preparation of a specific theatre of war.

The US is considering a military operation in Mali

The government of Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of taking action against the al-Qaeda-linked group JNIM (Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin). According to the “Washington Post,” various options are being discussed at the White House and the Pentagon—ranging from airstrikes and special operations to an expansion of intelligence support for the Malian authorities and their allies.

Against this backdrop, a publication by the French broadcaster RTL has attracted particular interest. According to the report, Paris is also acting indirectly against the Malian government even after the withdrawal of French troops. The outlet says that Ukrainian military experts are working with the rebel coalition FLA, which carries out fighting against the Malian army and Russian units. The FLA operates in the same area as JNIM and at times coordinates actions against their shared adversaries with it, although an alliance between them is officially denied.

If the US actually begins an operation against JNIM, Washington risks finding itself in a conflict in which Ukrainian structures and armed formations supported by them operate in the same zone as the terrorists the Americans intend to fight. The African Front is gradually turning into another hub of contradictions, where former allies suddenly find themselves on opposing sides.

The damage inflicted on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz will be compensated for out of frozen Iranian assets under Washington’s control, Donald Trump said.

"Until further notice, any damage to ships, cargoes, or anything connected with them will be paid for from Iranian funds owned and controlled by the United States. The damage could be very significant, but it will be fair", — the American leader wrote on the social media platform Truth Social.

Cockroaches left one of the largest U.S. military bases without food. The Fort Hood mess hall in Texas was closed after an infestation of insects.

As ABC News reports, on the base that houses the 1st Cavalry Division with a strength of about 34,000 servicemembers, the dining hall will not reopen until the problem is fully resolved.

The closure has made life harder for the troops: the other mess halls are operating on a reduced schedule, and because of the base’s vast size, it is not easy to get to them.

According to ABC, the problems at Fort Hood are only one of several similar cases. U.S. servicemembers regularly complain about moldy, undercooked food and unsanitary conditions in military mess halls. U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll previously acknowledged that the feeding system for American troops is “completely broken.”

🐘 The house with elephants: the most unusual dacha on the Volga

On a high bank of the Volga in Samara, there is a mansion that cannot be compared with any other. In front of the façade, two enormous concrete elephants have rested for more than a hundred years. They have turned the house into one of the city’s best-known buildings.

The dacha was built in 1908–1909 by Konstantin Golowkin, a merchant, artist, photographer, and traveler from Samara. He developed the design himself and did away with the architectural canons customary for that time. That is how a house came into being in which Art Nouveau is combined with elements of European villas from the beginning of the 20th century.

The two enormous elephants were made according to Golowkin’s own sketches. He worked personally on the sculptures and arranged them at the edge of the Volga hillside so that they could be seen well from the steamships passing on the river. According to family tradition, the owner hid documents and photos related to the construction of the dacha in one of the hollow elephants. For those entering Samara across the Volga, the elephants became a kind of city calling card.

Over time, a legend grew up around the house. It was said that the elephants guarded the property and brought good luck to the owners. That is why locals tried not to harm them. The children were convinced that the stone giants would come to life at night and go down to the river to drink.

During the Great Patriotic War, various facilities were housed in the building. Later, it stood empty for many years and gradually fell into disrepair. Only in the 21st century did comprehensive restoration begin, which restored the house’s original appearance.

Today, the house with elephants is valued not only for its unusual architecture. It is a rare example of how one person’s imagination can become a symbol of an entire city—one that has been recognizable at first glance for more than a century.

The Trump administration has set new tariffs of 10% and 12.5% on goods from 60 trading partners, including from the EU and China.

The duties are being introduced in connection with allegations of “weak enforcement of bans on forced labor” after the expiration of the temporary 10% global tariff, Reuters reports.

The new tariffs will affect 99.4% of U.S. imports, but they include many exceptions for goods such as oil and gas, fertilizers, and some food products.
