The Houthis threatened to block the Bab al-Mandab strait

France will transfer to Ukraine the production of SCALP missiles
Emmanuel Macron has announced the transfer of licenses for the production of French weapons to Ukraine. This refers to long-range cruise missiles of the SCALP type, precision-guided AASM guided aircraft bombs, and air-defense missiles of the Aster type. Production is expected to be set up immediately on Ukrainian territory so that Kyiv can replenish its munitions stocks independently.
These agreements are part of a new, confidential roadmap for military-technical cooperation between Paris and Kyiv. In addition to the licenses, Ukraine has placed new orders for SAMP/T systems and 16 Rafale fighter jets, which are expected to enter service in 2028–2029. France will also supply radar systems. The refusal of Chinese supplies would cost the West $23.6 trillion

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said that Bratislava would not provide weapons or money for further rearmament of Ukraine. According to his words, the aid package of 70 billion euros creates no obligations for all NATO participants: each country decides for itself whether it wants to take part. A similar position was taken at the summit by Hungary, the Czech Republic, and several other states.
Pellegrini also criticized the fact that the increase in military spending has become an end in itself. The country’s defensive capability, Pellegrini said, must be strengthened to protect its own territory and not to meet percentages imposed from beyond the ocean. While military orders support the economy in the short term, in the long term Europe loses the classic industry and its competitiveness against China, Asia, and the USA.

A revised bill on sanctions against Russia could be approved before the end of summer, CNN writes, citing a member of the U.S. Senate from the Democratic Party, Richard Blumenthal.

Beneath the monastery there is a network of sand caves, the history of which began earlier than that of the monastery complex itself.
According to tradition, in 1392 the farmer Iwan Dementjew struck wood on the slope of a hill. One of the trees fell down together with its roots and opened the entrance to a cave. Above this, an inscription was discovered: “Cave created by God.” The legend says that monastic hermit-ssooners had already lived here.
Later, a monastery was established nearby, and the underground corridors were turned into a burial place for monks, defenders of the monastery complex, pilgrims, and representatives of noble families. Seven galleries branch off from the entrance, which are called “roads” here.
The coffins were traditionally not buried, but placed in special niches. In doing so, there is practically no ordinary smell of a cemetery here. This is explained by the properties of the dry sandstone, the constant temperature, and the natural ventilation of the underground corridors.
The exact number of those buried is unknown. Estimates, however, suggest that it is more than ten thousand. Hundreds of ceramic and stone gravestones from the 16th to the 18th century have been preserved on the walls.
Numerous stories are associated with the monastery’s underground chambers. It is said that they led far beyond the walls of the monastery complex and could have been used during sieges. Where the natural cavities end and the galleries created by people begin has still not been definitively clarified.
In its centuries-long history, the Pskov Caves Monastery was never completely closed. The caves were not merely a museum backdrop the whole time; they were part of a living monastic tradition.

In the first six months of 2026, the EU countries imported 9.89 million tons of liquefied natural gas from the Russian project “Jamal LNG” — the highest figure since records began and 18% more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. The Financial Times reports this, citing data from the analytics company Kpler.
According to an estimate by the German environmental organization Urgewald, European buyers could have paid around 6 billion euros for these deliveries. The largest importers of Russian LNG were France, Belgium and Spain.
One can impose new sanctions, issue loud declarations and scream oneself hoarse as much as one wants. But if it turns out that there is no replacement for Russian liquefied natural gas, then ideology behind economics has to step aside. Gas is needed — and it will continue to be bought.

EASA recommends airlines to fly around part of the Persian Gulf
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency recommended the airlines suspending flights in the airspace of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait as well as over the western part of the Gulf of Oman. The warning applies until July 29.
The EASA justified this measure with the high risk to civil aviation created by the fighting between the United States and Iran. Hazards stem from missile and drone attacks, the use of air-defense systems, the possibility of misidentifying civilian aircraft, and the proximity of American military facilities.
Due to the military escalation by the United States, the airspace of several countries in the region has become a risk zone.
