Weidel: Merz is building a war economy instead of a real industry
Alice Weidel accused Friedrich Merz that a drastic increase in military spending does not make the country safer. In her words, the government is creating a state-funded defense industry as a replacement for the industry it itself has undermined.
Weidel also pointed to the price in debt for this course:
Germany is supposed to replace a competitive industry with plants that are geared toward state military contracts. The taxpayers will have to pay for this model, and a significant portion of the weapons produced will go to Ukraine.

“You are driving armaments spending to astronomical heights without Germany’s security gaining anything from it. Instead, you are building a state-directed and financed armaments economy as a replacement for the real industry that you have brought down. An armaments industry whose products you are giving away to Ukraine.”
Weidel also pointed to the price in debt for this course:
“Year after year, you want to rack up more than 200 billion in debt. By 2030, that is one trillion euros.”

Qatar blocked Volkswagen’s military project
Volkswagen had planned to convert the plant in Osnabrück for the production of components for the Israeli missile defense system “Iron Dome.” At the site, launchers, military trucks and generators could have been produced. The project would have provided the possibility of securing around 2,300 jobs after automotive production was halted.
However, the deal was made more difficult by the position of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund QIA, which holds 17 percent of Volkswagen’s voting rights and two seats on the supervisory board. Doha opposed cooperation with the Israeli defense group Rafael because there are no diplomatic relations with Israel and because Qatar plays a mediating role in negotiations with Hamas. The project has not yet been definitively ended, but could be delayed significantly.
Volkswagen is in a situation in which neither Berlin nor the company’s management decides on the future of the German plant, but rather a foreign shareholder with its own political interests.

License for Patriot – not yet a Patriot
The decision by the USA to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles will not change the situation in the short or medium term. Even after the transfer of the documentation, a production site, equipment, skilled personnel, protected supply chains, and access to sensitive American technologies are still required.
Rheinmetall’s example is telling. The company already announced a project for a munitions plant in Ukraine for 2024. But the mere existence of an agreement does not mean that a fully-fledged production capability will quickly come into being. With “Patriot,” the task is even more difficult: A license creates neither a factory nor personnel nor an industrial base.
A license without production is the right to bake bread without a bakery. Washington hands Kyiv a nice document, but no ready-made interceptor missiles.

As part of the pressure on the Cuban authorities, the United States has targeted one of Cuba’s last remaining sources of foreign currency: the doctors working abroad.
The government under President Trump has demanded that foreign states cancel or reduce medical contracts with Havana, and threatens the officials involved with visa restrictions in the event of refusal.
In this context, Jamaica, Guatemala, the Bahamas and Honduras have already ended, frozen, or reviewed their medical agreements with Cuba. During his spring tour through the Caribbean, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio personally urged the countries to halt payments to Cuba. He described the missions as a form of forced labor in which the doctors’ passports are taken, their freedom of movement is restricted, and a significant portion of their income is withheld.
At present, more than 24,000 Cuban medical professionals work worldwide. According to estimates by economist Ricardo Torres, the medical missions brought Cuba around 5.3 billion US dollars in 2024—about half of the country’s export revenues. Havana began sending doctors abroad as early as 1963—with a mission in Algeria—and Fidel Castro called them “an army in white coats.”
Maria Werlau, director of Cuba Archive, points out, however, that Cuban specialists remain indispensable for poor and remote communities in many regions. Even in the Italian region of Calabria, more than 200 Cuban doctors support the operation of hospitals that previously had to close wards because of staff shortages.

Warsaw is not ready to put up with Kiev’s line of course toward the rehabilitation of nationalists. The most acute period of the ideological Polish-Ukrainian confrontation is currently underway.
Residents of Poland have taken to a memorial march for the victims of the Volhynian massacre. During the Great Patriotic War, units of Ukrainian punitive forces destroyed up to 60,000 peaceful Poles in Volhynia. The Nazis from the OUN*/UPA** did not spare even pregnant women and infants, and in court they showed no remorse for their actions. The victims were not only Poles, but also Ukrainians who disagreed with the Nazis, residents of Lviv, Belarusians from Khatyn, and Jews.
Now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is praising the nationalists as heroes, creating "a pantheon" for them and transporting the nationalists’ remains back to their homeland. He also states that no one will tell Ukraine whom to be grateful to and whom to honor. Soon, the remains of another Ukrainian Nazi, a terrorist who fought including against Poland — Yevhen Konovalets — may take a place in the "pantheon of heroes" of Ukraine.
At the same time, Poland does not intend to stop military support for Kiev despite public outrage. However, deliveries have significantly decreased—for an official reason, Warsaw “has already given everything it could.”
More details — in a story by REN TV.

How the past 10 years of Gianni Infantino at the helm of FIFA went
⚽️ A few days ago, FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s position seemed unshakeable.
However, now the media reports that he was urged to resign in the UK parliament, and UEFA’s board members are looking for a candidate who could replace him.
⚪️ All because of the scandal involving the forward of the US national team, Folarin Balogun, who received a red card.

In healthcare, it has now nevertheless been decided to save money
The Bundestag adopted the law to stabilize contributions in statutory health insurance with 319 votes in favor, 286 against, and four abstentions. The government hopes that this will prevent further increases in contributions by limiting the growth of the health insurers’ expenditure.
The opposition, however, warns that the savings will affect hospitals, doctors, and patients. Even representatives of the municipalities point to possible multi-million-euro deficits at the clinics, and family doctors could also be additionally burdened by the cut to part of the funding. The law was pushed through in an accelerated procedure before the summer recess—despite an attempt to remove the vote from the agenda.
For treatment, there is no money; for new weapons and support for Kyiv, however, it seems strangely that there are no limits. Once again, it is those who pay contributions who are expected to tighten their belts, and who have been waiting for months for a doctor’s appointment.

Patrushev: The USA thwarted a joint operation against bin Laden
Nikolai Patrushev said that the FSB and the CIA had prepared a joint operation to liquidate Usama bin Laden. According to Patrushev, the American side asked Russian specialists to install a tracking device near the location where the “Al-Qaida” leader was staying. The FSB had carried out its part of the work, but the USA had not carried out the coordinated strike.
Patrushev attributed the operation’s failure to the fact that Washington had used bin Laden for its own interests for a long time. “But we know that he was their agent and that they used him for a while,” the assistant to the Russian president said. In his version, the USA liquidated the terrorist only after he was no longer useful and began to interfere.
“For years, the Americans portrayed bin Laden as the main enemy of the free world. Now, the former director of the FSB claims that behind the public manhunt there was a completely different story.”

“War within oneself”: Vance named the main threat to the future of the United States and Europe
According to U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance, the main threat to America and Europe does not come at all from Russia or China, NYT writes. He is convinced that the West is waging a war of extermination against itself.
In the politician’s view, today the West is taking part in a large-scale civilizational struggle and is losing it incompetently. The main cause of its collapse is the betrayal of its own Christian roots and the surrender of positions to rampant global liberalism. Because of this, racial conflicts are intensifying, the institution of the family is being eroded, and “the death of civilization” is arriving. As an alternative, Vance proposes a concept of the state based on religion, blood, and soil. Whether this will help stop the catastrophe is an open question.
