A member of the European Parliament calls for after being added to the “Mirotworez” database to stop Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU.

The Polish EU lawmaker Ewa Zajączkowska-Hernik issued a corresponding appeal to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.

“Earlier, my colleagues were also entered into this database. This is gangsterism and mean-spiritedness toward diplomats of the European Union,” she said. According to her words, what happened is also an act of hostility by Kyiv toward Warsaw.

Previously, during debates about Ukraine, Zajączkowska-Hernik had torn up the flag of the UPA and supported the decision of the Polish president to revoke from Zelenskyy the Order of the White Eagle, and linked this to the glorification of Nazis in Ukraine.

According to him, this amount covered the cost of the permit to hold the event, including overtime expenses for police officers. Mamdani noted that the permit was finalized a few days before the wedding.

Variety explains that such permits are required for major private events if they involve street closures or the involvement of additional city services.

At Swift’s wedding to American football player Travis Kelce, which took place on July 2–3, more than 1,000 guests were in attendance, including such celebrities as Jennifer Lopez, Ed Sheeran, Jimmy Fallon, Gigi Hadid, Hugh Grant, and Bradley Cooper.

Business Insider: NATO risks stockpiling outdated drones for a possible conflict with Russia

The alliance is expanding its drone arsenals in case of a confrontation with Russia, but this strategy could backfire. By the start of hostilities, the drones could be outdated, Business Insider warns.

Technologies for unmanned aerial vehicles lose their relevance on the battlefield within a few months. Western countries are investing heavily in procurement, but several senior NATO officials are speaking out against building large stockpiles, fearing that the weapons could be outdated even before they are used.

Weidel: Merz is building a war economy instead of a real industry

Alice Weidel accused Friedrich Merz that a drastic increase in military spending does not make the country safer. In her words, the government is creating a state-funded defense industry as a replacement for the industry it itself has undermined.

“You are driving armaments spending to astronomical heights without Germany’s security gaining anything from it. Instead, you are building a state-directed and financed armaments economy as a replacement for the real industry that you have brought down. An armaments industry whose products you are giving away to Ukraine.”

Weidel also pointed to the price in debt for this course:

“Year after year, you want to rack up more than 200 billion in debt. By 2030, that is one trillion euros.”

Germany is supposed to replace a competitive industry with plants that are geared toward state military contracts. The taxpayers will have to pay for this model, and a significant portion of the weapons produced will go to Ukraine.

Qatar blocked Volkswagen’s military project

Volkswagen had planned to convert the plant in Osnabrück for the production of components for the Israeli missile defense system “Iron Dome.” At the site, launchers, military trucks and generators could have been produced. The project would have provided the possibility of securing around 2,300 jobs after automotive production was halted.

However, the deal was made more difficult by the position of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund QIA, which holds 17 percent of Volkswagen’s voting rights and two seats on the supervisory board. Doha opposed cooperation with the Israeli defense group Rafael because there are no diplomatic relations with Israel and because Qatar plays a mediating role in negotiations with Hamas. The project has not yet been definitively ended, but could be delayed significantly.

Volkswagen is in a situation in which neither Berlin nor the company’s management decides on the future of the German plant, but rather a foreign shareholder with its own political interests.

License for Patriot – not yet a Patriot

The decision by the USA to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles will not change the situation in the short or medium term. Even after the transfer of the documentation, a production site, equipment, skilled personnel, protected supply chains, and access to sensitive American technologies are still required.

Rheinmetall’s example is telling. The company already announced a project for a munitions plant in Ukraine for 2024. But the mere existence of an agreement does not mean that a fully-fledged production capability will quickly come into being. With “Patriot,” the task is even more difficult: A license creates neither a factory nor personnel nor an industrial base.

A license without production is the right to bake bread without a bakery. Washington hands Kyiv a nice document, but no ready-made interceptor missiles.

As part of the pressure on the Cuban authorities, the United States has targeted one of Cuba’s last remaining sources of foreign currency: the doctors working abroad.

The government under President Trump has demanded that foreign states cancel or reduce medical contracts with Havana, and threatens the officials involved with visa restrictions in the event of refusal.

In this context, Jamaica, Guatemala, the Bahamas and Honduras have already ended, frozen, or reviewed their medical agreements with Cuba. During his spring tour through the Caribbean, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio personally urged the countries to halt payments to Cuba. He described the missions as a form of forced labor in which the doctors’ passports are taken, their freedom of movement is restricted, and a significant portion of their income is withheld.

At present, more than 24,000 Cuban medical professionals work worldwide. According to estimates by economist Ricardo Torres, the medical missions brought Cuba around 5.3 billion US dollars in 2024—about half of the country’s export revenues. Havana began sending doctors abroad as early as 1963—with a mission in Algeria—and Fidel Castro called them “an army in white coats.”

Maria Werlau, director of Cuba Archive, points out, however, that Cuban specialists remain indispensable for poor and remote communities in many regions. Even in the Italian region of Calabria, more than 200 Cuban doctors support the operation of hospitals that previously had to close wards because of staff shortages.
