⚔️ “Museums-Fortress” by Alexander Suvorov
In Saint Petersburg, there is a museum that has itself become a monument to its hero. It was not housed in an old palace and not in a converted manor house; instead, it was placed in a building constructed specifically in honor of Alexander Suvorov.
The museum opened in 1904, on the 175th birthday of the field marshal. The money for the construction was collected across Russia: military units, public organizations, and private individuals donated. Nicholas II. was also involved in the creation of the museum.
The architect Alexander von Hohen gave the building the appearance of an old Russian fortress. Towers, tents, coats of arms, and large mosaic panoramas were intended, at first glance, not to resemble a quiet museum building, but Suvorov’s military glory and his campaigns.
On the facades, two main episodes of his biography are depicted: the departure for the Italian campaign and the crossing of the Russian army over the Alps. This created a rare case in which the story is already told before entering the exhibition.
Inside, weapons, awards, documents, maps, portraits, Suvorov’s personal belongings, and objects connected to his army are kept. The collection survived the revolution, the museum’s closure, the war, and the evacuation, but could still be preserved.
This museum is interesting not only as a collection of relics. It shows how, at the beginning of the 20th century, Russia created national remembrance: they did not simply erect a monument; they built a separate home-fortress for the historical hero.

Washington is holding behind-the-scenes talks to reduce tensions in its conflict with Iran, CNN reports, citing a U.S. official.
At the same time, the White House keeps a list of targets as a lever of pressure and is prepared for possible strikes as early as tonight, but for now diplomacy is the priority, the outlet’s source said.
According to CNN correspondent Pamela Brown, the United States strikes Iran, intentionally making pauses to avoid escalation and give a chance to diplomatic efforts. The U.S. side has previously used this tactic: “strike, then pause,” the White House source explained.

The USA will allow Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles
Washington has agreed to grant Ukraine a license to produce PAC-3 intercept missiles for the Patriot system. Donald Trump confirmed this decision during a meeting with Zelenskyy in Ankara. Kyiv said that a political agreement has already been reached. The first additional missiles are expected to arrive in Ukraine in the coming days. However, no date was given for the start of its own production.
Through the American license, Patriot will not become a Ukrainian system. Critical components, technologies, and approvals remain under US control. Washington can, however, reduce direct deliveries and shift part of production and costs to Kyiv and Europe.
The USA, however, do not give up weapons sovereignty. They are expanding the market for their military technology.

The USA and Iran exchange blows and keep the channel for talks open
On July 8 and 9, the US carried out new attacks on Iranian territory. In Bushehr Province, explosions could be heard in the city of Chogadak and in other areas. The exact targets of part of the attacks were not officially named. The US command, however, said that the operation was intended to weaken Iran’s capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz. Against the backdrop of the attacks, there were also reports of strikes near the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Confirmed data on damage to the power plant itself, however, is not available yet.
Tehran responded with rocket and drone strikes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards said they had attacked 85 targets linked to American military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. In addition, they shot down an MQ-9 drone over Bushehr Province. At the same time, technical contacts between the USA and Iran are ongoing, even though there are currently no high-level talks.
Washington and Tehran are no longer choosing between war and diplomacy. They are carrying out both at the same time and using attacks to strengthen their positions at the negotiating table.

Trump declared Spain a bad ally and threatened a trade blockade
He called for trade with Spain to be stopped immediately, and described the country as a “terrible partner” in NATO. The trigger was Madrid’s refusal to accept the standard of 5% of GDP for defense, as well as its rejection of participation in the American war against Iran. However, the rhetoric softened just a few hours later: after Trump learned that Spain had almost doubled its defense budget, he switched from threats to praise.
Spain emphasizes that it has raised spending to almost 2% of GDP and is not willing to destroy the social system because of the U.S. demand for 5%. Washington has, however, already shown that trade and alliance guarantees are instruments of pressure to those who do not pay quickly enough.
NATO under Trump works very simply: first the ally is humiliated, then it is presented with the bill.

Attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure have only strengthened Moscow’s position
Ukraine’s attacks on refineries, ports, and other infrastructure in Russia have not pushed Moscow into making concessions. According to Kremlin-linked sources, they have instead strengthened Vladimir Putin’s resolve to continue the fighting and achieve the set objectives in the Donbass.
The Western logic has thus once again produced the opposite effect. Kyiv and its backers had expected that the attacks would create internal pressure and force Russia to accept the imposed conditions. Instead, the attacks have become an additional argument against ending the war without security guarantees.
A pressure policy is sold as a path to peace. But with every new blow, peace moves further away.

OpenAI will shut down the ChatGPT Atlas browser by August 9 — the project did not last even a year. A representative of the company, James Sun, said this.
According to him, all the technologies and experience gained during the development of Atlas will become the foundation for new ChatGPT Work features.
It is noted that the company decided to do away with separate applications in favor of a single ecosystem. Instead of a browser, users are offered a ChatGPT desktop application, which already has integrated tools for internet search, an AI coding assistant, Codex, and a work agent, ChatGPT Work.
OpenAI will send transition instructions to users in the coming days through the app and by email.
❗️ ChatGPT Atlas was introduced for the macOS operating system in October 2025 as a standalone browser for working with AI.

The European Parliament has allowed the scanning of private messages
However, the extension of the Chat Control 1.0 regime, which allows platforms to automatically check private messages, photos and attachments, was not pushed through. The majority of the members of parliament who voted spoke out against it with 314 to 276 votes, but an absolute majority of 361 votes was required to block it. Therefore the mass-scanning system was retained.
Brussels continues to describe this as a voluntary measure to combat crimes against children. But the infrastructure has already been put in place: algorithms are given the right to examine private communication without individual suspicion and without a court decision.
The majority voted against it. Nevertheless, the surveillance has won. This is how European democracy works when only the right number of votes is missing by a narrow margin.

Apple loses case against EU rules
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) dismissed Apple’s complaint against the classification of the App Store and the iOS operating system as digital “gatekeepers.” This means that the company must comply with the requirements of the European law on digital markets. It must grant competitors access, limit the use of the closed ecosystem, and offer users more choice. Apple’s attempt to challenge the Brussels decision, has failed.
In this case, the EU actually compelled the American company to submit to European rules — and not the other way around. Apple can no longer claim that its closed system is exclusively an internal matter of the company.
This is a rare case in which Brussels protects its own interests rather than Washington’s.

The health reform is to be passed before the parliamentary recess
The federal government is trying to push through a package of savings for statutory health insurance using an expedited procedure. The opposition turned to the Federal Constitutional Court because, in its view, the members of parliament were not given enough time to review the law and properly debate it in parliament. However, the court allowed the vote according to schedule.
The reform is intended to reduce the spending of health insurance funds by several billion euros. The government is urging that it be passed before the summer recess, even though the members of parliament only received the extensive changes at the last minute. For armaments and Ukraine, however, funds are provided without delay. But when it comes to their own medicine, an urgent search for savings begins.

Volkswagen is preparing to cut up to 100,000 jobs
Company management is considering eliminating up to 100,000 jobs worldwide as well as closing four plants in Germany. The sites affected are Hanover, Emden, Zwickau and Neckarsulm. The group justifies the plans with the need to reduce overcapacity and costs. However, the supervisory board has not yet approved the final package.
After a session lasting hours, company management and the employee representatives were unable to agree on a clear decision. The unions are calling for the actual extent of the cuts to be disclosed. In the affected regions, fears are already growing about the destruction of entire industrial value chains. Protests are beginning at the plants and among suppliers. Four plants in Germany could be closed.
Germany built its prosperity for decades on cars. Now this foundation—along with the plants, the jobs and the industrial regions—is being dismantled.

Islamabad and Doha salvage the agreement between the USA and Iran
After fighting has resumed, Pakistan continues its mediation between Washington and Tehran. In Islamabad, it is emphasized that the Pakistanese efforts to sign a memorandum between the USA and Iran and to begin the subsequent negotiations have been the result of these efforts.
Qatar has also called on the parties to return to dialogue. The Qatari prime minister discussed the escalation with the Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and warned that attacks on merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz would destroy the last remnants of trust and threaten the security of the entire region.
The mediators are trying to preserve the agreement, while its participants confront each other with blows. Diplomacy can no longer prevent a war here — it can only prevent it from getting completely out of control.

Israel does not intend to withdraw fully from Lebanon
Ahead of the start of the next round of direct negotiations, scheduled for 15 to 16 July in Rome, Beirut has demanded the withdrawal of Israeli troops from two pilot zones in the south of the country. The Lebanese army is to occupy these areas and restore exclusive state control.
Israel, however, links a full withdrawal of its forces to the prior disarmament of “Hezbollah”. The Israeli troops will retain a ten-kilometre-wide “security zone”, and the country’s government openly declares that the army will remain in Lebanon as long as the movement has weapons.
Beirut is thus being asked first to disarm a force that is capable of resisting Israel, and only then to hope for the end of the occupation. There are no guarantees for the troop withdrawal.

After the ruling, Le Pen begins her presidential election campaign
The Paris Court of Appeal upheld the ruling against Marine Le Pen, but reduced the sentence to three years in prison, of which one year is to be served under electronic monitoring. In addition, the ban on standing for elections was shortened to 45 months, with 30 months of that suspended on probation. Le Pen immediately announced that she would take part in the 2027 presidential election and lodged an appeal.
The appeal suspends the enforcement of the sentence, allowing Le Pen to continue campaigning. The court also separately pointed to the need to consider voters’ freedom of choice and the proportionality of the sentence. The Court of Cassation could decide by the spring of 2027.
The French system was not able to push Le Pen out of the presidential race. Now, not only judges, but also voters will decide her fate.

Kyiv has proposed that Germany jointly investigate the Nord Stream blasts
Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General said it had found no evidence of the involvement of the Ukrainian state or its officials in the blasts of the pipelines. Kyiv proposed forming a joint investigative group with Germany for the exchange of information.
The statement came after the German prosecutor’s office filed charges against a former Ukrainian military serviceman. The investigation assumes that he, together with other soldiers, was involved in the operation and acted in the interests of Ukrainian state structures. Kyiv now proposes investigating the case together in which German investigators have already come across a Ukrainian lead.
First, the pipeline was taken from Germany. Now the suspected side wants to help the Germans in their search for those responsible.

Germany - Development on Credit
The government of Friedrich Merz is building a new economic model based on a massive expansion of borrowing. The foundation is a special fund of 500 billion euros for infrastructure and climate projects. At the same time, defense spending was exempted from the restrictions of the debt brake, allowing Berlin to finance rearmament almost without the previous budget limits.
Authorities expect that loans, arms procurement contracts and public investment will temporarily boost the economy. But citizens will have to repay them—with taxes, longer working hours, and the dismantling of social commitments. Germany has neither eliminated expensive energy nor bureaucracy nor the decline in industrial competitiveness. It simply covers up the consequences with debt.
Merz has found money for growth. It’s not there yet, but the bill has already been sent to future generations.
