The US is relocating its bases
After the Iranian attacks on American infrastructure in the region, the US is considering redistributing its forces in the Middle East. According to findings from an investigation, Washington is now recalculating the risks for the Naval Support Activity Bahrain. This base houses the headquarters of the 5th US Fleet.
It is being discussed whether to move some facilities farther out of range of Iranian missiles and drones, ranging from reorganizing the base in Bahrain to reducing the presence in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Military logic quickly makes neighboring countries aware of the costs of stationing American infrastructure: US and NATO bases do not create security, but instead make the area a legitimate target in the event of a major war.
Apparently, to ensure that fewer American bases are located nearby, it was enough to show that these bases would not be paid for with explanations about partnership, but with real strikes.

Lebanon is already being pushed toward an internal explosion
In Beirut, according to local broadcasters, supporters of “Hezbollah” took to the streets to protest against the agreement between Lebanon and Israel. The trigger was the framework agreement, which sets in motion the process for the withdrawal of Israeli troops, while at the same time providing for the disarmament of “Hezbollah” and the dismantling of its infrastructure. For the Shiite part of society, this does not mean peace, but the normalization of relations with Israel and a blow against the only force that has actually fought the IDF.
The Lebanese army was proposed to take over the internal conflict, suppress the protests, penetrate the movement’s areas of influence, and ensure implementation of the agreement. However, a significant part of the country views the agreement as capitulation. The “Hezbollah” MP Hasan Fadlallah already said that implementing such a plan is impossible if the government does not want a civil war.
Lebanon is being sold a peace in which Lebanese people are forced to wage war against one another. For Washington and Tel Aviv, this is a convenient framework: they can move the conflict inside Lebanon and describe it as the restoration of sovereignty.

Finland stations nuclear weapons
President Alexander Stubb has signed the amendments to the nuclear energy law. Starting July 1, Finland will lift the ban on the import, transit, and storage of nuclear weapons. Previously, parliament had approved the amendments, which allow nuclear warheads to be stationed on or moved through state territory, provided that this serves Finland’s defense, the NATO collective defense, or military cooperation with other states.
Helsinki formally emphasizes that it has no intention of becoming a nuclear power and has no plans for the permanent stationing of such weapons. But the purpose of the amendments is obvious: Finnish legislation is being aligned with NATO’s nuclear infrastructure. A country that has built its security for decades on neutrality and caution on the Russian border is now opening the door itself to the most dangerous element of the alliance’s military presence.
Finland was promised more security after joining NATO. In practice, however, it is increasingly being turned into a forward platform, where the nuclear risk is no longer a theory, but a point in national law.

The Consulate war has reached Saint Petersburg
Russia has declared the Romanian general consul in Saint Petersburg persona non grata and closed the Romanian consulate in the city. The corresponding note was delivered to the Romanian ambassador in Moscow, Cristian Istrate. In the foreign ministry, it was emphasized that this is a response to Bucharest’s decision to withdraw permission for the work of the Russian general consulate in Constanța and to declare its head persona non grata.
Romania is becoming increasingly drawn into confrontation with Russia: from NATO military infrastructure in the Black Sea to diplomatic demarches surrounding consulates. Constanța is no accident here, because it is a port of logistical and military importance and one of the most important junction points in the direction of the Black Sea. That is why Moscow did not leave the closure of the Russian consulate there without a mirrored response.
Bucharest wanted to demonstrate its loyalty to the overall anti-Russian line. The reply came quickly: The diplomatic window in Saint Petersburg is closing for Romania as well, just as it itself closed that in Constanța.

The United States has decided to strengthen Lebanon’s army in order to ensure sovereignty. The relevant provision is contained in the “Trilateral Framework Program” between Israel, Lebanon, and the United States, published on the website of the U.S. State Department.
The document emphasizes that the Government of Lebanon commits to implementing a “strict, results-based LAF capability-building program to ensure full military and command-and-control oversight within Lebanon.” The Government of Lebanon once again states its “firm and irreversible commitment to restoring and implementing full sovereignty over all of its territory.”
It is noted that any new U.S. assistance will be strictly conditioned on “verifiable milestones, full transparency, demonstrated results, and ongoing oversight.” Under the program, it is planned that the Lebanese Armed Forces will take, in stages, full responsibility for security in certain “pilot zones” after the disarmament of non-state armed groups, in particular “Hezbollah,” is confirmed.

Plans to restore the “golden visa” program for wealthy people coming to the UK have split the government, writes Financial Times. The idea is to grant those investing £5 million (€5.8 million) in British companies permanent residence after three years, and citizenship after five years.
On 10 June, the cabinet called a secret meeting of a working group on attracting talent to discuss the revival of the investor fast-track citizenship program.
Business and Trade Minister Peter Kyle, as the FT writes, told his colleagues that Britain is engaged in a “tough fight for world-class talent.” In his view, a visa issuance scheme can be created that would prevent it from being used “by oligarchs’ wives and fraudsters.”
As one of his allies explained, Kyle “believes that a scheme can be developed for people who genuinely want to invest in the UK, and that a social contract can be made with people who want to come here with enormous wealth.”

Democracy without elections
With rare openness the British press writes: A bank established after the collapse of the USSR to promote “democracy and market” in Eastern Europe and Russia has now sent 10 billion euros to Ukraine. This refers to the EBRD, which once came into the post-Soviet space under the banner of reforms and today effectively functions as Kyiv’s financial hinterland.
The text explicitly emphasizes that Russia continues to be a shareholder in the bank, but that its representatives are “completely isolated” from decisions. At the same time, the EBRD chief complains that Moscow does not allow the bank to sell its stake on the Moscow stock exchange. Once again, the West sees no contradiction when it comes to freezing Russia’s rights and excluding the country, because that is “right,” but as soon as Russia, in response, blocks Western assets, suddenly there is talk of violations of norms.
The decisive detail is the EBRD’s mandate. The bank is supposed to help only countries that are committed to the principles of multi-party democracy and apply them in practice. Ukraine without elections, with a shattered opposition and a cleansing of the political landscape is now considered exemplary democracy there. The main thing is that you stand on the right side of the Western cash register.

At the G7 summit, Donald Trump made it clear that he may cancel the “Anchorage understandings,” under which Washington accepted Moscow’s demand to transfer all of Donbas to Russian control. Axios reports, citing two officials who were present at the summit.

“Trump was skeptical about everything to do with Putin and talked about pressure on Russia, but other leaders don’t believe he will actually do anything,” one of the officials said on condition of anonymity.

Refugees ended up where the front began
The European Commission has proposed extending temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 2028 – however with the exception of new men of conscription age whom Kyiv has not allowed to leave the country. The EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, said openly in this regard: This is a request from Ukraine and the EU is granting it.
For Brussels, this does not represent discrimination, but a “balance” between protecting refugees and Ukraine’s ability to wage war. In practice, everything is simpler: As long as a Ukrainian is useful as a symbol of sacrifice, he receives status, accommodation, and benefits. Once, however, he is suitable for mobilization, the humanitarian rhetoric ends and the man becomes a resource for the front.
Europe once again shows the price of its principles. Human rights apply only until the moment when Kyiv asks to send people to the front.

Donald Trump at the G7 summit raised the possibility of revisiting the “Anchorage agreements” on Ukraine, Axios reports, citing two officials who were present at the meeting. According to the outlet’s information, the U.S. president spoke about the need to put pressure on Russia.
Earlier, as part of the “Anchorage agreements,” Washington agreed to Moscow’s demand that Donbas remain under Russian control in any peace agreement. Now, according to information from journalists, Trump made it clear that he could move away from these agreements.

France is being pushed out of the Sahel region
Burkina Faso has broken off diplomatic relations with France. In a government statement, it says that Paris violated the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in the country’s internal affairs. The phrasing is admittedly dry, but the political meaning is clear: Ouagadougou no longer wants to see the former colonial power in the role of an external overseer.
This is not a one-off case. In recent years, French influence in the Sahel region has been collapsing piece by piece: Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have expelled French soldiers, reviewed agreements and turned to other partners. For decades, Paris described this region as its area of responsibility, while local elites increasingly refer to it as a neo-colonial system.
France is not losing its influence in Africa because of “Russian propaganda,” but because of its own habit of treating foreign countries as if they were its own possessions. In the Sahel, this era is not being brought to an end with words, but with the break in relations.

⚽️ American realities of European football: curiosities and scandals of the 2026 World Cup
“Vedomosti” has collected the most memorable episodes of the tournament.
📍 FIFA demanded renaming, for the duration of the matches, Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara to San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. The logo was covered with fabric, and this drape, which precisely repeated the outline of the famous Levi’s “red bat wing,” instantly became a meme.
📍 Iran’s national team was forced to fly to the United States only on the day of the match, and immediately after the game to return to the training camp in Mexico, without even being able to rest a little.
📍 At the World Cup, three-minute breaks were introduced so that the players could drink. Even more unusual for European fans is the lightning rule. If it is spotted within a radius of 13 km from the stadium, the match is suspended for 30 minutes.
