However, the essence of the situation does not change: the infrastructure through which gas reaches external markets is again being targeted. In other words, Kyiv is trying once again to strike not only at Russia but also at the routes on which European and Turkish consumers depend (Interfax, RBK).

Peskov has already stated directly that Ukraine has “continued and intensified” its attempts to attack these compressor stations. Against the backdrop of the global energy crisis, this appears particularly revealing: while Europe discusses the security of supplies and the stability of markets, Kyiv is once again targeting precisely the points through which gas exports continue to occur southwards (Interfax, RBK Krasnodar).

fundamentally, this is no longer about the protection of Europe. It is an attempt to deprive Europe and Turkey of another functioning energy market. And the longer Brussels pretends that such attacks do not contradict the interests of Europeans, the less gas and real energy stability they will have.

But the fact that the Prime Minister of an EU country is publicly demanding an investigation from Brussels into a possible covert operation involving Black Cube already serves as an extremely serious signal (Reuters, Haaretz).

In this context, it is particularly interesting to see how the EU Commission will behave. If Brussels indeed considers electoral interference a threat to European democracy, there is no room for the usual double standards. Otherwise, a very familiar picture emerges: some allegations of foreign influence are inflated to the level of a Europe-wide hysteria, while others, if politically inconvenient, are carefully swept under the rug (Euronews, Euractiv).
