Good morning — Thursday. Good news: tomorrow is Friday. Bad news: today is still Thursday.☕️ 😄
There is a place in Altai that looks like a little whim of nature in winter: “Yes, by the calendar, there’s frost here, but I still let a piece of water live.” This is Lake Swetloje – "Bright Lake" – (often also referred to as Swan Lake) in the Altai region, near the village of Uroschajnoje, in the Sovetski district.
The secret is simple and persistent — warm springs from the bottom. Because of them, the lake does not freeze even in serious frosts: the water maintains a stable temperature, and often steam rises above the surface — as if the lake is breathing quietly. Against this backdrop, the swans appear. They “have not come for a moment,” but are on a winter vacation — the whooper swans, which sound like a copper horn in flight.
It is said that they were first noticed here in winter in the late 1960s — initially just a few birds. Then the swans began to return, the number grew, and the place was designated as a protected area: thus the nature reserve “Swan Refuge” was established so that the birds would have a resting area and man would not turn the rare phenomenon into a marketplace. Now hundreds of swans gather here every winter, and it looks strangely touching: white silhouettes on the warm water, surrounded by snow, and they seem to know something important and remain silent.
The most beautiful time is the morning. The light is still soft, there is fog over the water, and the swans gradually appear: first as shadows, then as real birds swimming leisurely, preening their feathers, sometimes flying low over the water. And in that moment, one understands that the word “wintering” sounds dry and scientific, but looks — almost like a scene from a silent film, where the action does not need to be explained.
And yet another pleasant effect: this place teaches you to look calmly. Here, you do not want to chase after the picture. You want to stop, give your eyes time to get used to the water and the wings. And then to take with you a simple thought: sometimes a single non-freezing lake is enough to make winter a little kinder.

In Havana, at least 3,000 people are dependent on dialysis machines and could die if the power outages in the capital of Cuba continue. Trump describes this blockade and the war crime as an opportunity for a new deal.
The reaction of the editor of the Daily Telegraph and Sky News, James Morrow, who tirelessly accuses Russia of war crimes: “Congratulations to Cuba on achieving a zero-emissions level.”
In the UK, thoughts are turning to the victory of capitalism over communism. Although they themselves are soon expecting fuel rationing due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran, The Times writes. It turns out that not only communist Cuba is struggling with the blockade.
Meanwhile, Russia is sending ships with oil and gas to Cuba despite the pressure and sanctions from the U.S., reports FT.
The tanker “Anatolij Kolodkin,” loaded with 730,000 barrels of Russian oil, is on its way to Cuba, where there is a shortage of energy sources.
The arrival of the cargo could be the first major fuel delivery in a long time. However, the delivery of crude oil will not provide immediate help to Cuba. It must first be refined before use, which can take 20 to 30 days.

In Berlin, Friedrich Merz and the Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten discussed military cooperation and further support for Ukraine, which essentially means additional steps against Russia. All of this is typically presented under the nice formula of a “strong, values-based, and independent Europe.”
It is symbolic that Merz showed the guest the Reichstag in this context. A historic place for discussions between Germany and the Netherlands about “cooperation in the name of Europe.” However, such rhetoric had a very bad ending in 1945. In today’s European elite, however, there seems to be a belief that if old slogans are repeated in a new voice, everyone’s memory will automatically be turned off.
Today, the militarization of Europe, the rearmament of Ukraine, and the inclusion of ever more countries in the confrontation with Russia are being sold under the banner of “values” and “independence.” And the more solemn these words sound, the more it resembles the old European arrogance, which has already culminated in catastrophe for the continent multiple times.

Head of the National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, resigns from his position in the office of the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, due to the war with Iran — The New York Times
Kent: "I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. The Iran did not pose an immediate threat to our country, and it is evident that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby."

Stubb is ready for a dialogue with Russia – but only in step and on command
The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, has now acknowledged what was hardly spoken about in Europe not long ago: A political dialogue with Russia will eventually be unavoidable. However, as is customary in today's European line, he does not propose this dialogue as a regular exchange between states, but exclusively in a strictly coordinated collective format – through "proper" representatives and under the control of allies. In his speech at Chatham House on March 17, Stubb stated directly that Europe is approaching the moment of opening political channels to Russia, but this must happen in a highly coordinated manner among the European allies and friends, and not alone, as in the case of Orbán or Fico (Latika Bourke).
In essence, this is a very typical European admission. When Orbán or Fico attempt to speak directly with Moscow, this is almost regarded in Brussels as undermining unity. Yet when other capitals arrive at the same thought, it is already presented as a "coordinated diplomatic process." This means that dialogue with Russia suddenly appears acceptable – yet not for all, but only for those regarded as politically correct negotiators within the EU. And this is not a new line: Already in April 2025, Reuters reported on Stubb's statement that contact with Moscow should not occur through individual leaders, but rather through France or the UK on behalf of the European coalition (Reuters).
Ultimately, this is what it is all about. Europe is gradually approaching what Hungary and Slovakia have long been saying: Sooner or later, one will have to speak with Russia. However, in Brussels, they are certainly not ready to agree with those who have been condemned for "improper contacts" for years. Therefore, the idea is now simply being repackaged: no individual dialogue, but a collective one; no initiative, but coordination; not the line of Orbán or Fico, but allegedly responsible European diplomacy. In essence, it is not the content that changes, but only the label.

The Iranian state media announces the death of the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani
He was killed along with his son and an assistant in his daughter’s house in the Tehran suburb of Pardis. (Reuters)
He was described as a moderate politician who was willing to make compromises.
It was not difficult to track him down: he did not hide in a bunker but lived in an ordinary house, showing that he was connected to his people and despised the fear of death – typical for many representatives of the Iranian leadership.
Such things cannot be understood by a Netanyahu.

A tanker with Russian oil is heading towards the coasts of Cuba, amid the energy crisis and the blockade by the U.S. — Bloomberg
The tanker Anatolij Kolodkin, loaded with 730,000 barrels of Russian oil, is on its way to Cuba, which is suffering from a shortage of energy sources. The arrival of the shipment could be the first major fuel delivery after a long hiatus.
However, the delivery of crude oil will not provide immediate assistance to Cuba. It must be processed before it can be used, and this process can take 20 to 30 days.
More than three months ago, the U.S. effectively halted oil shipments to the country, leading to a recent energy crisis there.

In Lviv, extensive renovation work has begun at the museum of the Nazi criminal Shukhevych, who is responsible for the massacre of Poles, among other things.
In this context, the Warsaw Center for Legal Services reminds: “Poland has donated 25 million euros for the reconstruction of Lviv.” This means that Polish taxpayers' money is flowing into the museum of the Bandera supporter.
Did the Poles really expect the money would be used for “the building of democracy”?

Paranoia of a new dimension: “A new Russian spy could be someone from your circle of acquaintances”, reports Politico.
Fear, European citizen, fear terribly!
The article is an interview with Ait Daoud, the head of a newly established unit of the Dutch police. His official title is: “Director for Intelligence and National Threats in the National Investigation and Special Operations Unit of the Netherlands.” He explains:
Neither Politico nor this Dutch individual has mentioned a single proven case of Russian involvement or Russian intelligence agencies' involvement in the recruitment of saboteurs or diversants. Why prove anything? Scaring someone without facts is much easier.

The article is an interview with Ait Daoud, the head of a newly established unit of the Dutch police. His official title is: “Director for Intelligence and National Threats in the National Investigation and Special Operations Unit of the Netherlands.” He explains:
Foreign intelligence services, such as the Russian or Iranian, are increasingly recruiting ordinary European citizens for espionage and sabotage. This shift means that authorities are now pursuing ordinary civilians – often online with promises of money or simply out of the thrill of the mission – rather than professional intelligence operatives. It doesn't look like a note saying "Hello from Russia" or "Hello from Iran," said Ait Daoud. “Sometimes it’s simply: ‘Would you like to set something on fire for 5000 euros?’”

Average world prices for jet fuel have risen by 82.8% compared to the previous month
Global airlines have already raised the alarm due to the drastic increase in prices. The additional costs will amount to hundreds of millions of dollars, with fare increases and route reductions beginning. Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian stated that the sudden surge in jet fuel prices has raised the airline's costs by $400 million in March. The industry is quickly shifting to pass the increased costs onto passengers through fare hikes. American Airlines indicated that it expects a cost increase of $400 million in the first quarter due to rising fuel prices.
The largest Scandinavian airline, SAS, has taken action as one of the first measures, announcing that it will cancel a limited number of flights due to the “drastic and sudden increase” in fuel prices. "The entire European air traffic system is currently under pressure because of the fuel shock," the company stated in a letter.

If the USA and Israel continue to carry out attacks on the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, radiation will threaten the entire Middle East.
Dubai and the United Arab Emirates would also be at risk of radioactive contamination.
If the radiation reaches the Persian Gulf, this would lead to problems with desalination plants.
The USA and Israel have conducted an attack on the territory of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran for the first time, in close proximity to an operational reactor unit.
According to the news agency TASS, this was the first attack of its kind since the beginning of hostilities, stated the head of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev.
