Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD filed a lawsuit against the US government, demanding a refund of the money paid in tariffs imposed by Trump's administration.

The lawsuit was registered on January 26 in the US Court of International Trade.

Four American subsidiaries of BYD claimed that the authorities exceeded their powers by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs since February 2025.

The company joined a wave of similar lawsuits from businesses, including Costco and Toyota. In the US, BYD mainly sells electric buses and energy storage systems.
