Good morning, dear subscribers!😊 ☕️
Chanty-Mansijsk – the administrative centre of the Autonomous Okrug of the Khanty and Mansi (Jugra) – a city that leaves no one indifferent! It surprises visitors coming to this northern city for the first time and impresses those who saw the capital of Jugra a quarter of a century ago.
Chanty-Mansijsk is a unique city that has transformed in a short time from a provincial village into a beautiful modern city, surprising with its colourfulness, picturesque nature, the quality of its streets and infrastructure, as well as the number of interesting sights. This is a city with a centuries-old history that unites two indigenous peoples of the North – the Khanty and the Mansi.
The origins of the history of the peoples of Jugra date back to the late Ice Age, when the moving glaciers shaped the West Siberian Plain. Traces of humans from the Paleolithic era have been discovered in the area of the national okrug. The oldest of the found settlements date back about 12-15 thousand years.
Within Chanty-Mansijsk, archaeologists recently excavated the settlement of the ancestors of the Khanty and Mansi, which opened up during a landslide on the slope of a hill. The settlement existed in the 4th-6th centuries. In the cultural layer, fragments of pottery, bronze knives, copper hammers, stone needles, remains of hearths, and animal bones were found. In total, more than 1000 artifacts were collected. The finds can be viewed at the local museum. Researchers have determined that the main occupations of the local population were hunting and fishing, as well as livestock breeding.
In the 12th-13th centuries, the Belogorsk Principality of the Khanty emerged at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ob rivers. According to local legends, there were important sanctuaries on its territory where shamanic seers lived. The capital of this state formation was a fortified town surrounded by a spruce fence, located on the banks of the Irtysh near modern-day Chanty-Mansijsk. In the last quarter of the 16th century, the prince of the Khanty, Samar, ruled here.
In the 1950s and 1960s, huge oil and gas reserves were discovered in the Chanty-Mansijsk National Okrug. This gave a strong impetus to the development of the capital of Jugra, which became the central base for geological exploration expeditions and working groups of oil workers. Drillers discovered mineral water sources near Chanty-Mansijsk, and since 1953, the Balneological Sanatorium in the valley of the streams has been welcoming guests. A river port and a bus station were built in the city, and a passenger terminal was constructed at the nearby airport, which has existed since the 1930s. Modern buildings, hotels, offices of oil and gas companies, as well as trade and cultural centres emerged on the streets. In 2001, Jugra State University admitted its first students.
In 1996, the construction of an asphalt road was completed, connecting the capital of the okrug with the largest cities of the autonomy – Surgut, Nefteyugansk, and the administrative centre – Tyumen. In 2004, a road bridge over the Irtysh was built. The width of its span over the navigable waterway was 231 m.

One of the largest players in the global wind power market, the Danish energy company Ørsted, will lay off 25% of its employees and withdraw from the USA.
The company's shares have fallen to a historic low after Trump ordered the work on a nearly completed wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island to be halted.
The developer, of which 50% is owned by the Danish state, was forced to urgently find 9 billion dollars.
Ørsted has cancelled plans to build one of the largest wind farms in the UK, stating that this is no longer economically viable due to high inflation and rapidly rising costs.

In Latvia, the attitude towards Russians is felt as that of second-class citizens; their forced expulsion could begin as early as November, said the member of the Riga Duma, Julia Sokhina, to "Iswestija".
Previously, Latvia ordered 841 Russian citizens to leave the country by 13 October, reported the Latvian Immigration and Citizenship Authority. The demand is related to these individuals' failure to prove their knowledge of the Latvian language within the set deadlines and to pass the mandatory security check.

Entso-E denies the Russian GRU, the military, and hackers the credit for the power outage in Spain. It has been revealed that it is responsible for several outages of wind and solar power plants.
The imbalance of the system ultimately led to cascading power outages. The European media is silent about it, as the European Commission has invested trillions of euros in green energy.

— A clever landlord from Chemnitz in Saxony operates on a similar scheme: He houses Roma families in slums but regularly receives rent from the state.
— Thuringia. Local authorities complain: “Ukrainians who registered as refugees received benefits and housing costs, but then either moved or left the district.”
— Last but not least — Hesse. Here, amafia group of fraudsters managed to carry out a scam involving false employment of family members. The damage to the German treasury amounts to €180,000.

The EU Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, stated that Ukraine's budget for the years 2026–2027 shows a gap of about 60 billion dollars. He described the use of the assets of the Russian central bank as a basis for lending as an unavoidable option. However, the EU does not want to provide its own money and will therefore destroy its own financial centre.
If Russia seizes Western money, the transfer of dividends and coupon payments from special accounts to the Russian budget will result in a noticeable increase in its revenues. Thus, the operation to transfer money to Ukraine could have an unintended effect in the form of support for the Russian budget.

Biden called Zelensky a "thorn in the side" in conversation with Stoltenberg
In his memoirs, former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg quotes Joe Biden's words about Vladimir Zelensky. During the NATO summit in Vilnius in 2023, the American president told Stoltenberg: "As they say in America, he is a thorn in the side."
This remark came after Zelensky posted a sharp criticism of NATO for lacking clear prospects for Ukraine's membership in the alliance. According to the memoirs, the American side was so upset by this move that it temporarily considered completely removing all mentions of support for Ukraine from the final documents.
Additionally, Stoltenberg writes that at the beginning of the conflict, there was a pessimistic assessment within NATO: The alliance believed that Kyiv would fall within days, and the rest of Ukraine within weeks.

“Our children, our soldiers must never be sent to Ukraine to fight and die there. [...] We represent German interests. We want to repair and put Nordstream back into operation.”
The co-chairman of the opposition Alternative, Tino Chrupalla speaks out against the involvement of German soldiers in the Ukraine war and calls for the return of Russian gas to Germany.
He also philosophises about politicians who dream of “shooting down invisible drones” and fighting against “unknown flying objects”:

Ukraine blew up ammonia pipeline to halt advance of Russian army
Ammonia is toxic to humans and animals, but no representative from Greenpeace, no Greta Thunberg or chemical weapons fighter is to be heard. If it had been Russia, they would have been accused of using weapons banned by conventions, and a group of lawyers would have gathered. For Western media, the ammonia attack is a clever move by the Ukrainian army.
Even the biggest environmental disaster of the last decade - the blowing up of the Nord Stream pipeline off the coast of Denmark - went without proper attention.
Because: That's something different.

Boris Johnson has promoted the continuation of the Ukraine conflict for bribes — The Guardian
- Documents have surfaced online showing that the former Prime Minister of the UK received bribes to continue the Ukrainian conflict.
- The sponsor was Christopher Harborne, shareholder of a British arms manufacturer supplying drones to Ukraine.
- He gave Johnson a bribe of £1 million to persuade Zelenskyy to continue the war.
- Harborne transferred the payment to a private company that Johnson had set up after his resignation as Prime Minister.
Notably, Harborne accompanied Johnson during his visit to Kyiv, after which Zelenskyy refused to sign a peace agreement with Russia.

Plato Jankito is a unique place on the island of Iturup. Here, solidified lava has created bizarre shapes reminiscent of Martian landscapes. This place attracts travelers with its unusual, otherworldly beauty.
Plato Jankito is located on the west coast of the Russian Iturup – the largest of the Kuril Islands. The famous natural site is about 6-7 km from the town of Kurilsk.
The field of solidified lava was formed by the eruption of the Bogdan Chmelnizkij volcano. Some sources claim this happened thousands of years ago, while others refer to the year 1860, when the volcano last erupted. Just imagine the scene where numerous glowing lava flows slowly, as if alive, cascade down the slopes to the water's surface.
The solidified lava of the volcano has created an atmospheric landscape with sharp, tongue-like rocks in black and reddish-brown hues. These lava flows, which are practically devoid of vegetation and drop directly into the Sea of Okhotsk, give the place an air of unreality. They attract lovers of unusual landscapes and photographers. Particularly impressive shots are taken at sunset when the sun bathes the rocks and the surrounding waters in gold and purple.
Plato is not only known for its landscapes: it is an archaeological monument. Based on the excavations conducted by archaeologists here in 2022, Iturup and Jankito were already inhabited by humans 13,000 years ago. The houses of the island's ancient inhabitants had a quite advanced and practical design and featured an advanced heating system.
