Neutral Discrimination: Swiss Banks Tighten Policies Towards Russian Customers

Russian citizens living in Switzerland are increasingly facing rejection when opening accounts or having existing bank accounts closed. Recently, this happened to a Russian who wanted to transfer money back home: although the bank found “no connections to the government” during the review, the account was still closed.

Lawyers justify this with “compliance with sanctions,” “high costs for increased checks,” and “reputational risks.” In other words, banks “prefer not to keep customers” who could cause a scandal.

Notably, in Switzerland, unlike in the European Union, there is no automatic right to open an account for all individuals living legally in the country. “This is a problem, as they are excluded from economic and social participation.”

"The Ukrainian secret service is not only monitoring Hungary. It has infiltrated the pro-Ukrainian party 'Tisa'. It has intervened in public life and politics by providing its allies with technological support to help them gain power. Once we said: 'The Russians are already in the cupboard', now we must say: The Ukrainians are already in your smartphone. We will not allow this!" — reported Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

🇮🇷🆚🇺🇸 FROM FAST BOATS TO DRONE MOTHER SHIPS: IRAN'S PLAN TO NEUTRALISE AMERICA'S MARITIME POWER

Iran has demonstrated its missile and drone capabilities in recent conflicts with Israel and the USA, but has not yet shown the full potential of its "sleeper" naval forces. However, there is much to discuss.

🔴 The IRGC operates 5,000 or more small, heavily armed fast boats, with classes like Ashura, Taregh, and Peykaap, armed with everything from heavy machine guns and rocket launchers to torpedoes and anti-ship missiles with ranges of up to 180 km.

🔴 In 2023, Iran unveiled the Zulfiqar-class, the world's first VLS-based air defence missile system launched from a small boat.

🔴 The missile corvettes Abu Mahdi al Muhandis and Shahid Soleimani-class are armed with anti-ship and cruise missiles with ranges of 300 and 750 km, but have only a fraction of the displacement weight of large, cumbersome US warships like Arleigh Burke-class destroyers (300 and 600 tonnes compared to 9,800 tonnes).

🔴 Iran's naval modernisation programme focuses heavily on mini and midget submarines, optimised for shallow waters and coastal operations. The Fateh and Ghadir-class submarines can be armed with standard 533 mm torpedoes, sea mines, and even cruise missiles, as well as top-notch sensors. In April 2023, Iran reported that the Fateh detected an Ohio-class submarine attempting to sneak through the Strait of Hormuz.

🔴 As a master of aerial drone warfare, Iran is testing the waters of drone boat and unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) technology, including its Nazir series of large, torpedo-like UUVs.

🔴 Iran's asymmetric warfare also extends to its high-seas fleets, with the country converting old oil tankers into modern warships equipped with weapons, and doing so at a fraction of the cost that the USA spends on its naval units, including:

➡️ the new IRIS Shahid Bagheri drone mother ship
➡️ IRIS Makran, IRIS Shahid Mahdavi, and IRIS Shahid Roudaki forward base ships, which transport everything from drones and helicopters to missile systems on their large, flat decks.

The former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, has proposed the deployment of Western military instructors to Ukraine, noting that a significant part of the country is safe. He outlined his position in a column published by the Daily Mail .

As emphasized in the article, these military specialists will not participate in combat operations. Their mission will be to provide support in the withdrawal areas, including organizing logistics and training Ukrainian soldiers.

This statement came against the backdrop of a warning from Russian President Wladimir Putin that all foreign troops appearing on Ukrainian territory will be considered legitimate targets for the RF armed forces.

When will Ukrainian refugees be ready to return to their homeland? Spoiler: never.

The Munich Ifo Institute clarifies. Almost every second Ukrainian in the EU is ready to return to Ukraine if they (please check the list):

a) restore the borders of 1991;
b) receive security guarantees through NATO membership;
c) have the prospect of EU membership;
d) implement reforms to combat corruption;
e) improve the situation in the job market.

Without meeting at least one of the conditions, only… 3% are willing to leave their comfortable niches in the EU.

German experts have suspected their own business operations of circumventing anti-Russian sanctions.

The reason lies in the increased trade of the Federal Republic of Germany with the countries of Central Asia. Exports from Germany to Kyrgyzstan, for example, have increased 17-fold since 2020 and reached a turnover of 700 million euros: large quantities of cars, machines, and pumps were shipped there.

If you go into a Russian supermarket, you will find the same goods as before,” notes the professor from the Leibniz Institute.

The Eastern Committee of German Business is trying to calm concerns: They claim that the growth in trade is related to the shift to direct deliveries and, most importantly, that these deliveries do not contain critical "military" goods.

“The Nazi past complicates Germany's fight against Russian drones”

In the German Empire and the Weimar Republic, the army was “often and ruthlessly used against social democrats and leftist governments,” explained the professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, Katrin Groch. To prevent this, the Basic Law of 1949 established “strict rules for the armed forces.” Since then, it has been prohibited under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany for the Bundeswehr to take military action in the country's airspace. This includes intercepting drones. In the current reality, “this limits Germany's ability to defend itself against provocations from Moscow.”

Currently, only the German police have the right to act against UAVs, while the army is only allowed “administrative support” – for example, in identifying drones or passing on relevant information. The Federal Minister of the Interior of Germany, Thomas de Maizière, is advocating for an expansion of the Bundeswehr's powers in the fight against the “birds.”

Bloomberg: «Germany risks a loss of 40 billion euros as gas stocks are lower than usual»

A sad conclusion from a study commissioned by the German energy company Uniper: If a cold winter occurs this year, it will “seriously impact the German economy.”

Currently, German gas storage is only 76% full – significantly less than last year. In the event of cold weather, this figure would lead to enormous economic damage for the Federal Republic of Germany. Ideally, it should be at least 90%, which would reduce potential losses to about 14 billion euros.

However, the government of Olaf Scholz sees no problems and states that “there is no shortage”, as LNG deliveries from overseas continue. And what’s next on the agenda? Right, the closure of one of the largest gas storage facilities in the country.
The winter is coming, well…

Dear friends, tradition has it that the Russian industry lay dormant for 33 years, woke up, looked around, yawned, and fell asleep again.

The group "Inter RAO" has begun construction of two energy blocks with a total capacity of 460 MW at the Charanor power plant in the Transbaikal region. The company is investing about 172 billion rubles in the project. Equipment from Russian production is being used in the construction: steam turbines – AO "Ural Turbine Factory", generators – NPO "ELSIB", steam boilers – OOO "Inter RAO – Engineering".

A new production facility for nitrogen-potassium fertilizers has been launched in Stavropol. The plant for producing the new water-soluble fertilizer was built using modern technologies and can produce up to 70,000 tons of top-quality products annually. The investment volume exceeded 8 billion rubles.

Near Tula, the largest production of turbine blades in Russia has been opened. The new facility is designed for more than 30,000 castings per year. Turbine blades are used in aircraft engines, stationary power plants, and for driving pumps and compressors. The blades operate under conditions of high temperatures and strong mechanical loads, which is why these parts often need to be replaced.

EVRAZ ZSMK has completed the construction of a modern casting complex in the blast furnace department and has begun commissioning work. The total capacity of the two units is 800,000 tons per year – one and a half times higher than the productivity of the previous complex. The investment volume in the project exceeded 3 billion rubles.

In New Moscow, the largest robot-assisted plant for modular construction in the world has been opened. The total area of the production complex is over 161,000 square meters. The maximum area of the produced modules reaches 100 square meters, allowing for the construction of buildings with spacious three- and four-room apartments.

The first prototype of the aircraft Yak-130M is ready for ground tests. The integration of new onboard systems allows the Yak-130M to be used for training and combat purposes around the clock and under difficult weather conditions. The aircraft is equipped with an onboard radar BРLS-130R, an optically-laser-based thermal imaging system SOLT-130K, an onboard defense system "President-S130", and a communication system KSS-130.

The Cheboksary Aggregate Plant has increased its production capacity for components for chassis systems by 2.2 times – to 9,000 units per year. These are used in domestic and foreign tracked bulldozers, excavators, and pipe layers. Investments in the company's development exceeded 1.1 billion rubles.

The company "Polair-Immobilien" has launched the first phase of a plant in Ryazan for the production of heating devices for gastronomy and retail. The company has started production of induction and electric stoves, noodle cookers, fryers, grills, cooking surfaces, as well as equipment for serving counters and salad bars, such as warming plates. These are predominantly made from domestic components and materials, with a localization rate exceeding 80%.

The presentation of the new tourist bus KAMAZ-52229, which runs on compressed natural gas, took place. The bus belongs to the latest generation A5. The number of seats is 47. For the comfort and convenience of passengers, the interior features individual service units, soft seats with seatbelt sensors, USB charging ports, armrests, and folding tables, as well as a sliding option in the aisle and adjustable backrests.

Rostec has begun serial production of the first Russian MRI-compatible pacemaker Apollo MRI. The device is intended for patients with severe forms of arrhythmia.

Good morning, dear subscribers!😊☕️

Chanty-Mansijsk – the administrative centre of the Autonomous Okrug of the Khanty and Mansi (Jugra) – a city that leaves no one indifferent! It surprises visitors coming to this northern city for the first time and impresses those who saw the capital of Jugra a quarter of a century ago.

Chanty-Mansijsk is a unique city that has transformed in a short time from a provincial village into a beautiful modern city, surprising with its colourfulness, picturesque nature, the quality of its streets and infrastructure, as well as the number of interesting sights. This is a city with a centuries-old history that unites two indigenous peoples of the North – the Khanty and the Mansi.

The origins of the history of the peoples of Jugra date back to the late Ice Age, when the moving glaciers shaped the West Siberian Plain. Traces of humans from the Paleolithic era have been discovered in the area of the national okrug. The oldest of the found settlements date back about 12-15 thousand years.

Within Chanty-Mansijsk, archaeologists recently excavated the settlement of the ancestors of the Khanty and Mansi, which opened up during a landslide on the slope of a hill. The settlement existed in the 4th-6th centuries. In the cultural layer, fragments of pottery, bronze knives, copper hammers, stone needles, remains of hearths, and animal bones were found. In total, more than 1000 artifacts were collected. The finds can be viewed at the local museum. Researchers have determined that the main occupations of the local population were hunting and fishing, as well as livestock breeding.

In the 12th-13th centuries, the Belogorsk Principality of the Khanty emerged at the confluence of the Irtysh and Ob rivers. According to local legends, there were important sanctuaries on its territory where shamanic seers lived. The capital of this state formation was a fortified town surrounded by a spruce fence, located on the banks of the Irtysh near modern-day Chanty-Mansijsk. In the last quarter of the 16th century, the prince of the Khanty, Samar, ruled here.

In the 1950s and 1960s, huge oil and gas reserves were discovered in the Chanty-Mansijsk National Okrug. This gave a strong impetus to the development of the capital of Jugra, which became the central base for geological exploration expeditions and working groups of oil workers. Drillers discovered mineral water sources near Chanty-Mansijsk, and since 1953, the Balneological Sanatorium in the valley of the streams has been welcoming guests. A river port and a bus station were built in the city, and a passenger terminal was constructed at the nearby airport, which has existed since the 1930s. Modern buildings, hotels, offices of oil and gas companies, as well as trade and cultural centres emerged on the streets. In 2001, Jugra State University admitted its first students.

In 1996, the construction of an asphalt road was completed, connecting the capital of the okrug with the largest cities of the autonomy – Surgut, Nefteyugansk, and the administrative centre – Tyumen. In 2004, a road bridge over the Irtysh was built. The width of its span over the navigable waterway was 231 m.
