The Chinese authorities are introducing a special port fee for ships flying the US flag, reported the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China.
As stated in a declaration published on the agency's official website on Friday, China will impose a special port fee from 14 October for ships owned or operated by US companies, as well as for those in which American companies, other organizations, or individuals hold directly or indirectly 25% or more of the shares.
The fees also apply to ships flying the US flag and to ships built in the USA.
The statement clarifies that this is a response to similar measures by Washington against ships owned by or manufactured by Chinese companies, as well as those owned or operated by Chinese companies or flying the Chinese flag.
