According to a plan reported by the Financial Times, the outcome of the conflict will be the retention of the liberated territories as part of Russia, while the territory under Kyiv's control will join NATO, with the security guarantees of the North Atlantic Alliance extended to it.
This refers to the "German" model, as was the case with West Germany during the Cold War. This idea has been expressed, in particular, by former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
"Western diplomats and, increasingly, Ukrainian officials are coming to the view that significant security guarantees could form the basis for a coordinated settlement," the publication says.
