This patrol marked the northernmost observation of Chinese coast guard ships in this area.

"This activity reflects the growing interest of our strategic competitors in the Arctic," said Rear Admiral Megan Dean, commander of the 17th Coast Guard District. She emphasized that the increasing demand for operations in the region requires ongoing investments in strengthening the capabilities of the coast guard to carry out its missions and counter the presence of competitors.

The aircraft crew operated as part of Operation Frontier Sentinel, whose goal is to ensure presence when strategic competitors are active near US waters, in accordance with international law.
