Statement on the Occasion of International Workers' Day
Protest Against the Islamic Republic’s Execution Regime!
As we approach International Workers' Day, May 1st, we call on all freedom-loving people around the world to rise against the oppression, injustice, and repression of the Islamic Republic of Iran. We urge you to stand firmly with the revolutionary movement "Woman, Life, Freedom" in Iran, a movement fighting to overthrow this regime and achieve freedom and equality.
This year, as we mark International Workers' Day, the sword of execution still hangs over the heads of countless Iranians, especially labor, political, ethnic, and ideological activists. Workers struggling for their most basic rights are met not with justice, but with brutal repression, imprisonment, and execution.
Sharifeh Mohammadi (46), a labor activist, has been sentenced to death simply for defending workers' rights. Abbas Dris (52), a protesting worker who participated in the November 2019 uprising and witnessed the massacre of civilians in Mahshahr, is also under a death sentence.
In the hands of the Islamic Republic regime, execution has become a weapon for silencing popular protests, protests led by a people who for years have fought to end the rule of this inhumane regime. The suppression of labor protests through executions is a core part of the Islamic Republic’s policy of repression.
On International Workers' Day, stand alongside the workers of Iran, with the families whose loved ones have been slaughtered by the regime's killing machine, and in solidarity with prisoners who are launching hunger strikes every Tuesday in around forty prisons across the country. Demand the immediate and unconditional end of executions in Iran.
We reach out to you, citizens of the world:
— Pressure your governments to end their appeasement of the Islamic Republic’s regime of terror and executions.
— If you are a member of a union or grassroots organization, urge your group to send letters of protest against the criminal executions in Iran.
— In May Day marches, rallies, and gatherings, be the voice of prisoners sentenced to death.
— Sign and share petitions and statements opposing executions.
— On social media, raise the voice of the Iranian people by using hashtags like #NoToExecutions and #SaveIranianLives.
Everywhere, demand: Executions in Iran must be stopped immediately and unconditionally. All imprisoned labor, civil, and political activists must be freed.
Long live global solidarity against executions!
Long live the workers' fight for a life of dignity!
Long live May 1st!
