TASH vs SPHMMC Vs Periphery in residency (Personal View )
🏥 (TASH)
Advantages
• A true hub of subspecialists with strong academic depth; you learn medicine from first principles and build solid scientific confidence by graduation.
• Particularly strong in Internal Medicine, Radiology, Pediatrics, Dermatology, and related disciplines.
• Academic culture is supportive; seniors are generally focused on teaching rather than intimidation.
• Exposure to complex referral cases enhances clinical reasoning and academic maturity.
• For sure, You may miss structured morning academic updates at times (especially in Internal Medicine).
Limitations
• Salary commonly delayed for the first 3–4 months (initial NPO period).
• Duty payments often lag by approximately three months.
• Limited dormitory access; nearby housing can be expensive.
🏥 (SPHMMC)
Advantages
• No significant salary delay.
• Duty payment from the previous month is typically paid together with the current month’s salary.
• Consistent additional payment for 40-hour duties.
• Better short-term financial predictability.
Limitations
• Relatively smaller academic exposure compared to TASH.
• Learning is highly self-driven—if you are proactive, you will benefit; if not, you may function more as a service provider with limited structured academic engagement.
• Less subspecialty depth compared to a major referral center like TASH.
