📣 Alo Yoga Retail Chain Debuts In-Store NFT Claim With MoonPay
Alo Yoga, an apparel and accessories retailer with dozens of locations across several U.S. states, has rolled out an in-store NFT claim in collaboration with crypto payments firm MoonPay, letting brick-and-mortar customers receive free digital collectibles featuring “daily affirmations.” Launched for Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States, the in-store experience lets customers tap a smartphone against a terminal that reads “Tap for Mindfulness”. The terminal is equipped with a near-field communication (NFC) chip that points customers towards a website and ultimately lets them claim a free daily NFT. Alo will also offer further NFT collection opportunities through email for customers. Alo’s in-store effort was created using MoonPay’s NFT minting platform, with the collectibles minted on Ethereum scaling network Polygon. The apparel retailer is covering all minting fees tied to the promotion as part of an effort.

Apple’s new headset could put a rocket under metaverse tokens
Apple is scheduled to release its highly-anticipated mixed-reality headset in the coming weeks, a development that some believe could breathe fresh life into the metaverse industry. This trend was pointed out in a May 15 tweet from independent developer Udi Wertheimer, who in a backhanded comment to the absurdity of influencer-driven memecoins, spoke of the upcoming release as a potential driver of metaverse token prices.
Decentraland is still in the process of building out its VR capabilities and The Sandbox previously told Cointelegraph it has “no immediate or future plans” to build out VR. Speaking to this point, Gilbert, like many others notes that a fully immersive metaverse experience is probably still a “long way off” especially when looking at the gap between the initial launch of the iPhone and the availability of apps.

Shaquille O’Neal, the basketball legend turned TV analyst, is now embroiled in two separate lawsuits related to the cryptocurrency sector on Tuesday, May 23, during a live NBA broadcast.
O’Neal was handed legal documents concerning his association with the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX and his NFT initiative, Astrals, at Miami’s Kaseya Arena. Notably, the venue was previously known as FTX Arena.

Metaverse to help tackle global warming: Study
A recent study suggests that the metaverse, a virtual 3D environment where the physical and digital worlds merge, has the potential to contribute to the reduction of global surface temperatures by up to 0.02 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. Published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science, the study highlights the metaverse's ability to lower greenhouse gas emissions, decrease atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration.
The study emphasizes the potential benefits of metaverse-based remote working, distance learning, and virtual tourism in improving air quality. By reducing transportation and commercial energy usage, the metaverse can also contribute to transforming energy distribution, with a greater energy supply directed towards the residential sector.

Logan Paul Hasn’t Refunded $1.8M To CryptoZoo Scam NFT Buyers After 6 Months
The publisher of the CryptoZoo NFT scam project, Logan Paul, has yet to fulfill his promise to return $1.8 million to investors over the past six months. YouTuber Logan Paul faced intense backlash six months ago for allegedly scamming his audience with an NFT gaming project called CryptoZoo, which was proposed in 2021. Paul and his crew were given ZOO tokens and sold NFT, but the game was never completed.
As alleged by Coffeezilla, Paul once promised to deposit all of their ZOO tokens into a burning wallet so that the tokens would be effectively destroyed. After that, they can only profit from their ZOO tokens. However, upon examining the official ZOO contract detailed in the token’s white paper, there is no clear evidence that Paul or Levin burned any of their ZOOs.

Solana May Get NFT Royalties Enforceable Through New Metaplex Standard
Creator royalties have dropped substantially in the Solana NFT sector recently, as top marketplace Magic Eden made paying them optional last week after rivals that shied away from royalties snatched away market share. Now Metaplex, the maker of Solana’s NFT standard, says it is developing a new standard that could enforce royalty payments across the board. While artists and creators can set royalty rates through project smart contracts.
The firm said that the existing Metaplex standard is used by more than 99% of all Solana NFTs created so far. Metaplex said it can create enforceable royalties by expanding its token metadata program, which is how NFT makers add the data and information that makes an NFT—or blockchain token representing ownership in an item—unique from one another.
