🍵 We just wrapped up a project with an unusual approach to classification.
Instead of the usual "catalog of teas with descriptions", the site explores tea through five elements, six classes, and archetypes. GABA oolong, for example, is a Bear in a winter den. Every tea has its own character, its own element, its own meditation.
The concept came from a simple idea. Tea is not a product, it is a context. And the site should feel like the brewing process itself, not like a shop.

How it works
🌿 Each element (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) has its own live background built on shaders. Not animation in the usual sense, more like breathing. The background lives, but never distracts.
🔥 Everything adapts to each tea. On the GABA oolong page, fire does not dance, it smolders. The cursor leaves sparks in an ember palette. The Chinese character appears as if written in ink right now. Color palette, typography, animation pace, all of it is tuned to the character of the tea.
⏱ There is also an interactive brewing timer that guides you through the ritual steep by steep, like a real tea ceremony. Each tea has its own page with a story, a legend, a terroir map, Chinese medicine properties, a meditation, and related varieties.
What is under the hood
⚡️ If you switch tabs, the heavy graphics pause and stop heating your laptop. If the device cannot handle the graphics, a calm gradient in the element color takes its place. If the system has reduced motion enabled, the site notices and quiets itself. There is also a motion toggle in the header, one click.
🛠 Stack: React and Vite, Tailwind CSS, OGL with custom GLSL shaders. The visual language is inspired by xieyi, the expressive style of Chinese ink painting.
