Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, on Sunday, the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, to discuss developments in the Gaza Strip.

The meeting, in which the head of Egypt’s General Intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel, participated, focused on joint Egyptian-American diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire.

The meeting touched on the latest developments on the ground in the Gaza Strip, and the urgent need to intensify efforts towards achieving calm and de-escalation.

According to local media, President Sisi stressed during the meeting the serious humanitarian situation in Gaza, pointing to the deterioration of the situation to the point of famine, pointing to the importance of unified and rapid international action to ensure that relief aid reaches all areas of the Strip.
