Egyptโ€™s government plans to borrow a huge amount in the new fiscal year 2024-2025, amounting to about two trillion, 849 billion and 200 million pounds ($59.11 billion).

This borrowing represents an increase of 33.1% compared to the previous year, and covers financing needs to cover the general budget deficit and repay local and foreign loans according to the specified dates, according to the analytical statement of the draft new state budget.

It is estimated that the expected uses of this borrowing include expenses, acquisition of financial assets and loan repayment of approximately 5 trillion, 541 billion and 400 million pounds (approximately $ 114.96 billion).

Members of the Egyptian House of Representatives called for the abolition of the Faculty of Arts and the restructuring of the faculties of law and commerce, to enhance compatibility with the requirements of the modern labor market.

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdel Moneim Imam, confirmed that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is working on a comprehensive strategy for modernization and development.

Imam explained that the strategy includes expanding the scope of colleges of applied arts and technology and modernizing the academic departments of the faculties of commerce to include training in dealing with advanced technology and robotics.

The proposed changes come in the context of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisiโ€™s calls for a shift in academic focus towards more profitable areas such as programming and communications that provide rewarding job opportunities for Egyptian youth through digital learning.

A report issued by the โ€œGlobal Coalition to Protect Educationโ€ revealed that more than 250 schools in Libya have been subjected to attacks over the past ten years as a result of fighting and floods in Derna.

The coalitionโ€™s report, entitled โ€œAttacks on Education 2024,โ€ indicated that intermittent violence between armed formations allied with the outgoing Government of National Unity and the government appointed by the House of Representatives continued during the years 2022 and 2023, which negatively affected schools.
