A team of Russian scientists has succeeded in developing a new technology that may pave the way for building future bases on the surface of the moon, by producing highly durable ceramic materials.

This innovation is the result of cooperation between researchers from the Russian Far Eastern Federal University and the Institute of Geology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The materials used in this technology are extracted from volcanoes in the Russian Far East, which contain lava known as “basaltic andesite,” which is rich in minerals needed to develop new materials.

The Russian scientist Oleg Shichalin , who supervised the project, explained that the extracted volcanic soil is characterized by its ability to heat quickly, which facilitates its use in producing the ceramic compounds required to build lunar bases.
