The Egyptian Olympic Committee announced the suspension of player Shahad Saeed, who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, for a year after she knocked down her teammate Janna Mohamed El-Sayed during the Republic Championship for Women under 23 years of age.

The Egyptian Olympic Committee issued details of the incident that occurred during the individual race held in the city of Suez on April 27, 2024, and indicated that Saeed’s punishment will continue until April 26, 2025.

Reports issued by the Egyptian Cycling Federation and the Committee of Bodies and Clubs showed that Saeed’s actions violated recognized sports rules and ethics.

Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi revealed his country’s ambitions for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, expecting to harvest between 6 and 10 medals.

In statements on the sidelines of a ceremony held by the Egyptian Embassy in France for the Olympic mission, Sobhi confirmed providing all the capabilities for athletes to qualify and compete in the Olympics.

The Egyptian minister indicated that his country is participating this year with the largest mission in the history of Egypt’s Olympic participation, as it includes 148 male and female athletes, in addition to 16 reserve players, competing in 22 different sports.

Sobhi revealed his country’s plans to reach 15 medals in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, stressing the work of the sports and technical staff to achieve this goal.
