The Tunisian authorities have opened a judicial investigation against former President Mohamed Marzouki, journalist and presenter Houcine Ben Omar, and the director of Zaytouna TV, journalist Sami Essid.

The Ariana court said the investigation was opened following a televised interview between the former Tunisian president and journalist Ben Amor.

The Euro-Med Monitor denounced the continuous arrests and summons targeting journalists in Tunisia, noting that these developments represent a serious violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms.

He called for the cessation of all forms of violations and respect for human rights and public freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and its international obligations.

Reporters Without Borders announced the results of the 2024 Press Freedom Index, noting that Libyaโ€™s position in the global and Arab list has improved.

Libya ranked 143rd in the world and 11th among Arab countries, indicating a more stable environment for journalists than in previous years.

There were no arrests, abductions, or killings of journalists in Libya this year, demonstrating significant progress in protecting journalists and media freedom.

Mauritania tops the Arab and Maghreb list of press freedom, followed by Tunisia and Morocco, while Libya ranks ahead of Algeria.

The index is based on five new criteria to assess press freedom, including the political environment, legal framework, economic, social, and cultural conditions, as well as safety.

The lawyerโ€™s house in Tunis witnessed a raid for the second time in 48 hours, as security forces arrested lawyer Mehdi Zagrouba.

In press statements, lawyer Monia Bouali pointed out that the raid was carried out by a large number of security men who smashed glass facades and windows, leaving behind a state of terror and chaos among those present.

Bouali denounced the security measures taken, stressing that they set a dangerous precedent that threatens the status and freedom of the legal profession in Tunisia.
