The army in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced that it had foiled a “failed” coup attempt involving Congolese and foreign fighters.

Media sources reported a clash in the capital, Kansasa, armed in military uniform, with bodyguards of a prominent political figure in an area near the presidential palace.

An exchange of fire took place on Chashi Street, about two kilometers from the presidential palace, killing two policemen and one of the attackers.

The residence of federal legislator and former deputy prime minister for economy Vital Kamerhi was attacked by gunmen, with a spokesman for Kamerhi confirming, via platform ‘X’, that his guards were able to repel the attack.
