On Wednesday, a dialogue session was held between the Libyan Prime Minister, Osama Hammad, and the head of the parliament’s foreign affairs committee, Youssef Al-Akouri.

Hammad discussed with Akouri the urgent need to reduce the number of employees in Libyan embassies by 40%, in order to preserve public funds and improve the efficiency of diplomatic work.

Discussions pointed to the need to improve diplomatic efficiency, by focusing efforts and resources in countries of strategic or economic importance to Libya, which have large Libyan communities or enjoy trade relations with the country.

Hammad stressed the need to reduce the overhead costs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in line with the budget submitted to the House of Representatives.

The Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury, called on Libyan leaders to engage in dialogue to form a unified government that will lead the country to elections.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

This came in a meeting on Wednesday with Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh, where the latter confirmed his support for a new political process run by the United Nations.

The political conflict continues between the main parties in Libya over the issue of forming a unified government, as the head of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, refuses to leave power and make room for another government, while Parliament insists on the need to search for an alternative to him.

Today, Wednesday, the Libyan Parliament, located in the east of the country, unanimously approved an additional budget for the government amounting to 88 billion Libyan dinars (about 18.3 billion dollars), to cover the remainder of the current year.

🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾🇱🇾

The approval came during a closed session chaired by Abdullah Belhaq, Parliament spokesman.

The parliament-designated government in Benghazi, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, obtained similar approval from the council last April for a budget worth 90 billion Libyan dinars.

This decision comes in the context of broader efforts to achieve stability in Libya, the west of which is suffering from a continuous deterioration in living conditions, while the east of Libya is witnessing a continuous rise in economic life.
