Encountering an accident scene on Jogoo Road, where a matatu from the Kayole-CBD route fatally crashed a passenger when it rolled over as it made an illegal turn, made me contemplate life's fragility.

Overhearing discussions at the scene shows the reckless driving culture among many matatu drivers in #Nairobi, likely driven by the pressure to meet daily earnings. It serves as a reminder to be careful and vigilant on our roads.

The Stanbic Bank building, has a rich history as the city's first brick building.
E. Grogan, a British colonialist, commissioned Amerikan arch. Robert Henderson to design the building in the early 1920s.

Inspired by the Swedish City Hall in Stockholm, Grogan wanted a unique brick building for the capital.

The building was designed in a Neo-Classical style.

On completion, he named it Torr in honor of his boss, Joseph Torr.

He later sold the building to Torr, a baker who wanted to venture into the hospitality industry & named the building Torr Hotel.

The Hotel opened for business in 1929.

In 1956, Torr sold the building to a Turkish financial institution.

The building's ownership has since revolved around many banks. It was later sold to the Ottoman Bank of Turkey, then became the National & Grindlays Bank.

In 1991, Standard Bank of S.Afrika opened its first Nairobi branch in the same building. It later became the Standard Chartered Bank.

Stanbic Bank acquired the building in 1992.

Today, the building is occupied by Stanbic Bank.

It was gazetted as a national monument in 2001 & remains one of the oldest historical landmarks in Nairobi.
