Every year, fans of the voodoo cult, which has over 60 million followers around the world, gather in the south of Benin for a large and colorful festival.
According to voodoo, the spirits of ancestors and the forces of nature determine the lives of believers. Priests and believers meet to praise the deities through songs, dances, drums, animal sacrifices, and prayers.
During our expedition to Benin and Togo, we will also go to this festival and witness the dancing of spirits and ceremonies of sacrifices, explore the tribes of southern and northern Benin and visit Togo where Tamberma build their famous fortress houses, visit the royal palace and even meet the king! Дома племени бетамарибе (Сомба) в Бенине напоминают маленькие крепости. Построенные из глины в форме башен, они впечатляют своим видом. Этажей обычно два или три. На нижнем этаже располагаются хозяйственные помещения, верхний — жилое помещение или помещение, предназначенное для зерна.
Дома находятся друг от друга на расстоянии «пущенной стрелы». Во время междоусобных войн, противники, подходя к любому дому, оказывались здесь как на ладони.
Уникальность и сложность этой архитектуры была признана в 2004 году организацией ЮНЕСКО объектом всемирного наследия с комментарием: «это выдающийся пример заселения территории людьми, постоянно ищущими гармонию человека с окружающей природой».

The houses of the Betamaribe (Somba) tribe in Benin resemble small fortresses. Built of clay, in the form of towers, they are impressive. There are usually two or three floors. On the lower floor there is a housekeeping room, the upper one is a living room or a room for grain.
The houses stay at an "arrow shot" distance from each other. During internecine wars, opponents are visible approaching any house.
The uniqueness and complexity of this architecture was recognized in 2004 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site with the comment: "This is an outstanding example of territorial occupation by people who are constantly looking for the harmony of man with the surrounding nature."

It is probably owing to their background, where the blood of North African Berber tribes mixed with negroid blood of the tribes inhabited the coast of the Gulf of Guinea.
Peul are famous for their specific tattoos and bright costumes.

Религия вуду - это религия с более чем 60 миллионами последователей по всему миру.
Ежегодно поклонники культа вуду собираются на юге Бенина в рамках большого и красочного фестиваля, чтобы вызвать духи предков и воспеть свои божества.
Каждый, кто посетит этот фестиваль, увидит, что Вуду и Зло – это разные вещи. Во всеобщем понимании, вуду является мутацией древних африканских верований тех людей, которые были обращены в рабство и увезены в Бразилию и на Карибы. Но это не имеет ничего общего со злом, а как раз наоборот. Согласно вуду, духи предков и силы природы определяют жизнь верующих. The Voodoo religion is a religion with more than 60 million followers around the world.
Every year, Voodoo worshipers gather in southern Benin for a large and colorful festival to invoke their ancestral spirits and celebrate their deities.
Every person who attends to this celebration will discover that Voodoo and Evil are different things. In the collective imagination, Voodoo is the mutation of the ancient African beliefs of those persons who were reduced to slavery and taken to Brazil and the Caribbean. But that has nothing to do with evil, quite the opposite. Voodoo believes that the ancestors and natural forces decide life of its believers. At that time thousands of devotees go to Ouidah, the main center of this cult to receive the blessing of the Voodoo leader of the city.
Here comes the big day of the Voodoo Festival. Today, the great priests and their faithful from all over Benin and even neighboring countries meet to magnify the deities through songs, dances, drums, animal sacrifices, libations and prayers. Attend this important festival with high dignitaries and other crowned heads.

We begin to announce the 2024! 🤩 In early January we will go to the tribes of Benin and Togo and to the Voodoo Festival in the company of an ethnologist.
The times of slavery in Africa passed long ago, and it created and left a legacy of amazing cultures and even religions. Every year, Voodoo worshipers gather in southern Benin for a large and colorful festival to invoke their ancestral spirits and celebrate their deities. People come here from all over the world, from Africa to South America and the Caribbean. 🎭
Our expedition heads to the annual Voodoo festival attends numerous rites and ceremonies, as well as explores the tribes of southern and northern Benin and Togo, where the Tamberma build their famous fortress houses.🏰
And we also visit the "African Venice" Ganvier – the African largest lake village, with 37 thousand of Tofin fishermen.

Начинаем анонсы на 2024 год! 🤩 Уже в начале января мы отправимся к племенам Бенина и Того и на фестиваль Вуду в компании с ученым-этнологом.
Времена рабовладельцев в Африке давно прошли, а вместе с тем породили и оставили потомкам удивительные культуры и даже религии. Каждый год поклонники культа вуду собираются на юге Бенина в рамках большого и красочного фестиваля, чтобы вызвать духов предков и воспеть свои божества. На него приезжают люди со всего света, от Африки до Южной Америки и Карибских стран. 🎭
Наша экспедиция посетит многочисленные обряды и церемонии, а также исследует племена южного и северного Бенина и заглянет в Того, где тамберма строят свои знаменитые дома-крепости. 🏰
А еще посетим «Африканскую Венецию» Ганвье - самую большую в Африке деревню на озере с 37 тысячами рыбаков тофи.
