Племя ньянгатом на обоих берегах реки Омо известно как главные поставщики оружия в эфиопскую Долину Омо. Являясь ближайшими родственниками племени топоса из Южного Судана, ньянгатом приобретали автоматы Калашникова у топоса, вовлечённых в Гражданскую войну в Южном Судане и безвозмездно получивших десятки тысяч единиц оружия. Being the closest relatives of the Toposa tribe from South Sudan, the Nyangatom got Kalashnikovs from Toposa who were involved in the Civil War in South Sudan and were granted with dozens of thousands of weapons. This is how the AK-47 fashion appeared in the Omo Valley, and the Nyangatom themselves became the most militant tribe in the south of Ethiopia.
Traditionally Nyangatom women wear massive bead necklaces. The more necklaces on the neck, the more beautiful is the woman. Therefore, they wear all the necklaces that the husband granted to his wife (or the father to his daughter). Nyangatom get their first beads adornment when they are children, and so they do not take it off until they are old.

🇪🇹 ЮЖНАЯ ЭФИОПИЯ: СВИРЕПЫЕ ОХОТНИКИ НЬЯНГАТОМ
Ньянгатом – племя, живущее на западном берегу в нижнем течении реки Омо. Их территория простирается до границы с Кенией и Южным Суданом, а также на территорию самого Южного Судана.
Как и большинство племён в этом регионе, по их собственному утверждению, ньянгатом окружены только врагами: на юге агрессивное племя туркана, к северу – сурма и к востоку через реку – дассанеч. 🛡️
Ньянгатом были первым племенем в долине Омо, кто стал использовать автоматы (АК-47), которые они получали от своих кузенов топоса из Южного Судана, прямо через границу, во время войны. Они используют оружие для защиты своего скота от возможного угона соседними племенами, а также во время межплеменных войн. Стада коров – самое ценное, что у них есть. 🐄
Другим племенам не нравятся ньянгатом - они их боятся и уничижительно называют их «буме», что переводится как «вонючий».
Сами ньянгатом говорят, что «ньянгатом» значит «желтый пистолет» или «поедатели слонов». Они действительно свирепые воины, гордящиеся своими шрамами на груди (согласно обычаю один шрам приравнивается одному убитому врагу).

Nyangatom is a tribe living on the west bank of the lower Omo River (Southern Ethiopia). Their territory extends to the border with Kenya and South Sudan, as well as to the territory of South Sudan itself.
Like most tribes in the region, according to their own statement, they are surrounded only by enemies: to the south are the aggressive Turkana, to the north Surma, and to the east across the river – Dassanech. 🛡️
The Nyangatom were the first tribe in the Omo Valley to use AK-47 automatic weapons, which they received from Toposa, their cousins from South Sudan just across the border, during the war. They use the machine guns to guard their precious cattle against thieves from neighboring tribes, as well as during tribal wars. Herds of cows are the most valuable property they have. 🐄
Other tribes don't like the Nyangatom (mainly because they fear them) and call them pejoratively the Bume, which translates as "stinking".
They say themselves that "nyangatom" means "a yellow gun", or also "elephant eaters". Nyangatom are indeed fierce warriors which is supposedly demonstrated by their custom to scar their chest; one scar for each killed enemy.
