Кажется, последить за этим событием собралась вся округа. Пигмеи в очередной раз подтвердили, что им нет равных в скорости, и одержали победу со счетом 1-0! Будет повод вернуться в ноябре 2020! 😜

Саго составляет 80-90 процентов рациона короваев. И выживанию короваи безусловно обязаны саговой пальме. Основной способ приготовления саго - запекание сагового теста в раскалённых камнях. На вкус очень сомнительно, поскольку это все-таки не столько тесто в нашем понимании, сколько размоченный крахмал.
Иногда короваи добавляют в саговую лепешку начинку, это может быть крысиное мясо, кусочки змеи, саговые жуки и особенное лакомство - личинка сагового жука.

🌴WHAT DO THEY EAT IN PAPUA🌴

80-90 percent of Korowai meals is sago. And owing to sago palm Korowai can survive. Traditionally they bake sago dough in hot stones. The taste is rather special, as it is not dough as we used to, but soaked starch.
Sometimes Korowai add stuffing to the scone, it may be rat meat, piece of snake, sago bugs and a special dainty - a grub of sago bug.

Mountain Eastern gorilla is one of the rarest kind of primates, which counts a little more than one thousand of species. Three neighbor states - Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo successfully protect these unique animals, and their population is slowly growing.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park counts a half of all mountain gorillas living in the world.
When you approach gorilla silverback (alfa male) within 3 meters of him, it makes an unforgettable impression. For some people meeting with gorillas becomes the most strong and vivid experience in all travel history.

🏠КОГДА ДОМ БОЛЬШЕ НЕ НУЖЕН🏠

Короваи бросают деревню или дом в двух случаях: покойник в доме или исчерпание природных ресурсов в округе, от которых зависят короваи, прежде всего, саговой пальмы.
Но есть и третья причина оставления деревень, которую, впрочем, нельзя считать распространённой.
Проводник рассказал о случае в одной деревне, когда девушка короваи вышла замуж за мужчину, а другой мужчина убил её из ревности, поскольку не смог с этим смириться. Мать убитой девушки прокляла убийцу и деревню. Люди начали умирать один за одним. В конце концов, короваи покинули эту деревню. Один из оставшихся высотных домов в той деревне можно увидеть из лодки слева по течению реки Сирет ниже деревни Мабул.

Korowai abandon a village or a house in two cases: a dead person in the house or exhaustion of natural resources in the area, on which the Korowai, primarily the saga palm, depend.
But there is a third reason, which, however, cannot be considered widespread.
The guide spoke about the case in one village when a Korowai girl married a man and another man killed her out of jealousy because he could not put up with it. The mother of the murdered girl cursed the killer and the village. People began to die one by one. In the end, the Korowai left this village. One of the remaining high-rise buildings in that village can be seen from a boat on the Siret River below the village of Mabul.

Папуасское племя короваи (колуфо), строящие свои дома высоко на деревьях в болотистых джунглях в верхнем течении реки Сирет на острове Новая Гвинея, как и многие другие племена, украшают себя татуировками и пирсингом, которые, однако, имеют здесь свои особенности.
При помощи шипа саговой пальмы короваи прокалывают нос в нескольких местах и мочки ушей, вставляя туда элементы костей летучей мыши.
Подобно пирсингу, для составления ожерелий короваи также используют фрагменты животных, прежде всего, зубы собаки (в женском ожерелье) и зубы свиньи (в мужском).
Живущие в каменном веке короваи весьма специфично делают татуаж лица (чаще - женского). Для этого они прижигают лицо горячими камнями, испачканными сажей. В результате получаются характерные точки, из которых может быть составлен узор. Эта процедура является невероятно болезненной. 🇮🇩 BAT BONES AND DOG TEETH🦇
The Korowai (Kolufo) Papuan tribe, building their houses high up on the trees in a swampy jungle of the upper reaches of Siret River on New Guinea Island, like many other tribes, adorn themselves with tattoos and piercing, which, however, have their own features.
Using huge saga palm thorns, Korowai pierce their earlobes and nose in several points and insert elements of bat bones.
Besides piercing, fragments of animals are also used to compose necklaces, primarily dog ​​teeth (in a female necklace) and pig teeth (in a male one).
Living in the Stone Age, Korowai very specifically do facial tattooing (more often for women). To do this, they burn the face with hot stones stained with soot. As a result, they get typical dots comprising a pattern. This procedure is incredibly painful. That is why, when the Korowai saw a full-back tattoo of one of the guys from our expedition, it took them long to come to themselves - they didn’t understand how the man was able to endure such pain.

Женщина племени короваи (регион Папуа, Индонезия), собираясь рожать, должна уйти из дома в лес. Рожать в доме на дереве ей нельзя. Муж строит ей маленькую хижину в лесу. Спустя месяц после родов женщина с младенцем может вернуться в общий дом. Не каждая возвращается, многие умирают при родах. Еще чаще умирают новорожденные. Если первый ребенок не выжил, то родившемуся после него нужно отрубить фалангу пальца. Это жертва во имя жизни.

🗿 TRADITIONS: KOROWAI TRIBE🌴

When a Korowai woman (Papua, Indonesia) is going to give birth to her child, she has to leave home and go to the forest. She can’t do it on the house-tree. Her husband builds a small shack in the forest. A month after birth woman with her child may come back home. But not all women return, many of them die in birth. And newborn die even more often. If the firstborn dies, the child which born next sacrifices his phalanx, in the name of life.
