Чум - традиционное жилище ненцев, которое разбирается, перевозится на нартах на новое место в тундре и собирается с легкостью туристической палатки 🙌🏼

За 3 года моих экспедиций на Ямал мне приходилось фотографировать чум в самых разных условиях, от суровой метели до яркого солнца, при свете луны и с россыпью звёзд на чистом полярном небе, на рассвете, на закате и конечно же при потрясающем северном сиянии.

Chum is a traditional Nenets’ house, which is disassembled, moved on sledge to a new place in Tundra and assembled as easy as a tourist tent 🙌🏼

For three years of my expeditions to Yamal I’ve taken pictures of chum in various weather conditions, from severe snowstorm to a bright sun, under the moon and with plenty of stars in a clear polar sky, at sunrise, at sunset and of course at wonderful northern lights.
Today there are photos of Nenets’ house - the center of their universe - chum🤩

На этот раз необычная экспедиция! С нами на борту популярный проект EXPEDITION EARTH 🌍
Новозеландские блогеры Тофер и Бриджит @expeditionearth.live 🚘
уже 2 года едут кругосветку за рулём своего экспедиционного Jeep Wrangler.
Ребята проехали полмира, 160 тысяч километров и 66 стран, и вот они отправляются на Ямал! Как они сами говорят, это самая увлекательная и волнительная часть их маршрута. Вчера мы встретились с ребятами в Москве и уже сегодня утром они выдвинулись в северо-восточном направлении, чтобы за 4 дня доехать до Салехарда.
В этой экспедиции мы будем передвигаться на трёх подготовленных вездеходах: ТРЭКОЛ, экспедиционный Jeep Wrangler и олдскульный Jeep Cherokee на больших трэкольных колёсах (на фото) 🤘😎

Yesterday we met the guys in Moscow and today in the morning they set out in the North-West direction in order to reach Salekhard in four days.

Завершилась наша первая в этом году экспедиция на Ямал. Погода была очень разная. Увидели и настоящую ямальскую метель, и северное сияние. Очень непростая дорога. Досталось и нам, и в особенности Гюнтеру- джипу EXPEDITION EARTH 🌍 @expeditionearth_live Ребята путешествовали вместе с нами.
Съездили на рыбалку 🐟, на охоту 🐇, покатались на оленьих упряжках 🦌🛷,
устроили малые ненецкие олимпийские игры 🏃‍♂ и задушевно у печки-буржуйки послушали народный фольклор.
Очень душевая поездка. Всегда возвращаюсь к ребятам, как к родным. С нетерпением жду следующей встречи!

Our first expedition to Yamal this year has been completed. The weather was various. We have seen a real Yamal snowstorm as well as Northetn Lights. The road was challenging. We and Gunter - the Jeep of EXPEDITION EARTH caught it bad🌍 @expeditionearth_live guys travelled with us.
We went for fishing🐟, hunting 🐇, reindeers sledges riding 🦌🛷; we arranged small Nenets Olympic games
🏃‍♂️ and listened Nenets folklore by the oven. It was a very warm-hearted trip. I always come back to the guys as to if they were my relatives. I’m looking forward to our next trip.

Друзья, завершилась наша вторая в этом году экспедиция на Ямал.
Команда из России, Украины, Таиланда, Финляндии и Италии 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 🇹🇭 🇫🇮 🇮🇹 провела 4 дня в стойбище оленеводов Ямальской тундры в районе реки Ензор Яха. Вместе с ненцами мы откаслали в район реки Ёркута, охотились на зайцев и куропаток, наловили пелядь и щуку, наблюдали за традиционным ритуалом забоя оленя и уже по традиции провели ненецкие олимпийские игры 🤩

Dear friends, our second expedition to Yamal this year has been completed. The team from Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Italy and Finland 🇷🇺 🇺🇦 🇹🇭 🇫🇮 🇮🇹 has spent four days in a nomad camp of Yamal Tundra reindeer herders in the area of Tenzor Yakha river. Together with the Nenets we have migrated to the area of Yorkuta river, hunted on hares and partriges, fished for pelyad and jackfish, watched traditional ritual of a reindeer slaughter and as a tradition we held Nenets Olympic Games🤩

🇷🇺 РИТУАЛЬНЫЙ ЗАБОЙ ОЛЕНЯ У НЕНЦЕВ ❄️

В ходе второй нашей экспедиции на Ямал нам довелось принять участие в ритуальном забое оленя.
Ненцы забивают оленя особым способом, сначала оглушив его обухом топора, а потом затягивая петлю на шее животного. Считается, что кровь не должна проливаться на землю до того момента пока тушу не разрежут пополам. Даже шкура снимается аккуратно и целиком, без следов крови. Ненцы, будучи анимистами, верят, что пролитая кровь к беде.
Ненцы тут же активно употребляют в пищу айбат (айбач) - сырое ещё тёплое мясо забитого оленя, а также пьют сырую кровь в чистом виде. Это позволяет им восстановить потребность в витаминах В2 и С. Поэтому ненцы никогда не болеют цингой.

🇷🇺 RITUAL REINDEER SLAUGHTERING BY NENETS ❄️
.
During our second expedition to Yamal we chanced to participate in a ritual reindeer slaughter. Nenets slaughter a reindeer in a very special way. First they nock it with an axe head an then they tighten a loop around the animal’s neck. It is considered that the blood mustn’t run to the ground until the corpse is cut in half. Even the fur is taken off carefully and in one piece, without blood traces. Being animists, Nenets believe that poured blood causes bad luck. Nenets also drink aibat (aibach) - raw and warm reindeer meat, and drink pure row blood. It helps them to balance vitamins B2 and C. This is why Nenets people never suffer scurvy.

Оля и Алина Вануйто позируют с тушей лиса, убитого их отцом на охоте.
У ненцев в тундре зачастую заканчиваются патроны для охотничьих ружей. Этим ресурсом они весьма дорожат. Неделю назад на охоте, преследуя на снегоходе лиса, Володя не стал тратить патроны и придавил жертву. Шкура пойдёт на воротник для ягушки (шубы) его жены, а тушку он собирается сдать в полярную биологическую лабораторию на опыты.

🇷🇺 FOX HUNTING❄️

Olya and Alina Vanuyto pose with a corpse of a fox, killed by their father during hunting. Nenets are often short of cartridges for hunting shot-guns. They rather value this resource. A week ago, during a hunt Volodya followed a fox on a snowmobile, and saved the cartridges, he’s just pinned it. The fur will be used for a neckpiece of his wife’s yagushka (fur coat), and the corpse will be passed to polar biological laboratory for experiments.

Вчерашний пост про девочку с лисьей тушей вызвал горячие споры в комментариях.
Чтобы открыть глаза на то, как живут ненцы (если мы в этом ещё недостаточно преуспели), расскажу историю Володи Вануйто (на фото), которую он поведал мне на прошлой неделе.
.
Как то в снежную бурю Володя на упряжке оленей оказался на полпути до дома. Видимость была нулевая, поэтому он вынужден был остановиться посреди тундры. Помимо прочего, волки напугали его оленей, и упряжка укатила в неизвестном направлении. Он остался наедине со стихией. «Под куполом» малицы (мужская шуба), не снимая ее, он развёл огонь и в банке из-под сгущенки растопил снег, чтобы напиться. Потом спустил малицу на ноги, затянул снизу поясом, убрал голову внутрь и заночевал прямо на снегу, как говорят сами ненцы, «в куропачьем чуме». К утру метель прекратилась, Володя отыскал оленей и вернулся домой, целый и невредимый.

Думаю, это в достаточной степени отвечает на вопрос, могли ли бы ненцы обойтись пуховиками или нет.

🇷🇺 HOW NENETS SURVIVE ❄️

Yesterday's post about a girl with fox corpse caused hot debate in the comments.
To illustrate how the Nenets live (if we have not succeeded enough yet), I will tell the story of Volodya Vanuyto (pictured), which he told me last week.
.
Once in a snowstorm Volodya, on a reindeer team, appeared halfway to the home. Visibility was zero, so had to stop in the middle of the tundra. Moreover, wolves scared his reindeers, and the team ran off in an unknown direction. He was left alone with the nature. “Under the dome” of Malitsa (men's traditional fur coat), without taking it off, he made a fire and he melted snow in a can from the condensed milk in order to get water and drink. Then he pulled the malitsa to his feet, fastened it on from below with his belt, put his head inside and spent the night right in the snow, as the Nenets themselves say, "in a quail chum." By morning, the snowstorm ceased, Volodya found the reindeers and returned home, safe and sound.

I think this adequately answers the question whether the Nenets could survive wearing down jackets or not.

Уже доброй традицией стало проведение малых «олимпийских игр» в стойбище оленеводов 🤩 Наши путешественники всякий раз принимают в них активное участие.
Мало кто знает, что ненцы очень спортивный народ и круглый год тренируются, чтобы выступить весной на Дне Оленевода.
Помимо известных скачек на оленьих упряжках, ненцы практикуют национальную борьбу, перетягивание палки, метание тынзяна на хорей (аркана на шест), игра в городки, забеги на лыжах с одной (!) палкой (кто угадает, почему с одной палкой, тот молодец:), тройной прыжок в длину с двух ног, прыжки через нарту (сани), прыжки через хорей и несколько других занимательных упражнений с хореем, тем самым соревнуясь в силе, скорости и ловкости.

It’s become a good tradition to hold small Olympic Games in reindeer herders nomad camp🤩 Our travelers actively participate. Few are aware that Nenets are very sports oriented people and train the whole year to perform their skills on the Reindeer Herders Day in Spring.
Along with famous riding reindeer teams, Nenets also practice national wrestling, stick pulling, throwing tynzyan (lasso) on khorey (pole), gorodki game, ski race with one stick (guess why one?), triple long two-feet jump, jumping over sledge, jumping over khorey and a few more exercises with khorey, competing in strength, smartness and speed.

Ненцы - кочевой народ, расселенный вдоль Северного побережья России, от Коми до Таймыра. Вся их жизнь построена на постоянных миграциях на новое место. Таких перекочёвок они делают более 30 за год, проходя в среднем около 600 км в год. Летом, в период изобилия пищи для оленей в тундре, ненцы могут каслать по несколько раз в неделю. Между тем, зимой около двух месяцев ненцы стоят на зимней стоянке - на так называемой «варге», их родовой территории. Для перекочевки (каслания) ненцы собирают все чумы, укладывают нюки (шкуры, которыми покрывают чум) и прочий скарб на нарты, формируя аргиши (длинные повозки из нескольких упряжек), ловят ездовых оленей, частично заводя в кораль (загон), а частично отлавливая при помощи тынзяна (аркана), и переходят на несколько километров на новое место, где снова ставят кочевой лагерь. Этот процесс занимает весь день от рассвета до заката. В каслании участвуют все взрослые представители стойбища.

🇷🇺 30 MOVES A YEAR . NENETS MIGRATION❄️

The Nenets are nomadic people settled along the northern coast of Russia, from Komi to Taymyr. Their whole life is built on constant migrations to a new place. They make such roaming more than 30 times per year, passing on average about 600 km per year. In the summer, during the abundance of food for reindeer in the tundra, the Nenets can migrate several times a week. Meanwhile, in winter the Nenets stand at winter parking for about two months on the so-called "warga", their ancestral territory. To migrate the Nenets collect all the chums, put nuks (skins that cover the chum) and other belongings on sledges, forming argish (long carts of several harnesses), catch sled reindeer, partially leading to the corral (pound), and partially catching with the help of tynzyan (lasso), and move a few kilometers to a new place, where they again set up a nomad camp. This process takes all day from dawn to dusk. All adult representatives of the camp are involved in the process.
