На Таймыре есть такое понятие как «ходить по бивни». Как по грибы, или по ягоды. Только «по бивни».
Дело в том, что весь полуостров Таймыр расположен в зоне вечной мерзлоты. Бивни мамонтов, живших в этом регионе 10-20 и более тысяч лет назад, идеально сохранились в таких условиях. И вечная мерзлота постепенно выдавливает их на поверхность.
Бивни лежат в мерзлой почве, в болотах и на дне рек. Чтобы выкопать бивень из мерзлоты, работать приходится долго, до нескольких дней. Выкопанный бивень находится в лучшем состоянии, чем то что пролежал на дне реки или в болоте.
Вот местные и снаряжают экспедиции «по бивни». В такие экспедиции отправляются на несколько недель, прорабатывая маршрут и заготавливая экипировку. Покупают гидрокостюмы и ныряют на дно водоемов, или проходят специальными шестами по земле, пока не услышат характерный стук.
1 кг бивня стоит сейчас не менее 30000 рублей. Один бивень весит в среднем 50 кг. Так что занятие это весьма прибыльное. На Таймыре настоящий бивневый бум.

On Taimyr there is a practice to go for a mammoth tusks. It is like if you go for mushrooms or berries, but you search for a mammoth tusk🦣
The fact is that the entire Taimyr Peninsula is located in the permafrost zone. The tusks of mammoths that lived in this region 10-20 or more thousand years ago are ideally preserved in such conditions. And the permafrost is gradually squeezing them out to the surface.
The tusks lie in frozen soil, in swamps and at the bottom of rivers. To dig a tusk out of the permafrost takes a long time, up to several days. The dug tusk is in better condition than the one taken from the bottom of the river or in the swamp.
So the locals arrange expeditions "for tusks", which may lust up to several weeks, working out the route and buying equipment. They buy wetsuits and dive to the bottom of rivers, or dig special poles into the ground until they hear a characteristic knock.
1 kg of tusk now costs at least 30,000 rubles. One tusk weighs an average of 50 kg. So this is a very profitable business. There is a real tusk boom in Taimyr.
