🏜 Наша команда начала своё путешествие по Анголе с аридных земель древнейшей на Земле пустыни Намиб.
🌵 Здесь выживают доисторические растения-эндемики вельвичии, некоторые из которых старше Иисуса Христа, и кочевники невероятного племени мукубал, которые из года в год неуловимо передвигаются по каменистым равнинам Намиба в поисках пропитания для их скота.
Мукубал (кубал) — народ банту, который, как считается, пришёл из восточной Африки и является потомками масаев. И хотя традиция изготовления больших шляп мукубал из бычьих хвостов претерпела изменения, и теперь используются более простые материалы, такие как кустарник, эти люди живут абсолютно традиционно, что проявляется как во внешнем выражении их материальной культуры, так и в образе жизни.
👣 Мукубал непревзойдённые ходоки. Для продажи товара на рынках, женщины проходят по 50 км в день!

🇦🇴OLA FROM ANGOLA! MUKUBAL TRIBE🧑🏿🦲
Ola, amigos! Mzungu speaking.
🏜 Our team began the journey in Angola from the arid lands of the Namib Desert, the oldest desert on Earth.
🌵 Here survives the prehistoric endemic plants of the Welwitschia, some of them are older than Jesus Christ, and the nomads of the incredible Mukubal tribe, who moves elusively year after year across the rocky plains of Namib in search of sustenance for their cattle.
The Mukubal (Kubal) are a Bantu people believed to have come from eastern Africa and to be descendants of the Maasai. Although the tradition of making large Mukubal hats from the tails of oxen has changed (now they use simpler materials such as bush) these people live a completely traditional life, which is reflected both in the external expression of their material culture and in their way of life.
The Mukubal are famous for being outstanding walkers. The women walk 50 km per day to sell their goods in the markets!
From my side I want to add that the Mucubal are also excellent photo-models. 👍 And there are no words to describe how fantastic sunsets and sunrises we meet here! 🌅
We are moving on to the Garganta area, where several hundred members of the Nguendelengo tribe are still preserved in the Leba Mountains.

Друзья, Мзунгу на связи.
Наша международная экспедиционная команда 🇷🇺🇩🇪🇷🇸🇭🇺🇺🇸 продолжает своё путешествие по южной Анголе.
Мы забрались в горы Леба, где на высоте около 2 тысяч метров разбросаны деревни племени нгуэнделенго.
Несмотря на большое количество деревень, большинство из них пустует, а общая численность нгуэнделенго едва ли превышает 300 человек.
Для этого видятся две основные причины.
Первая заключается в их основном способе хозяйствования. Одновременно скотоводы и горные земледельцы, они вынуждены постоянно перемещаться, практикуя сменное земледелие, время от времени оставляя свои поля «под пар». Поэтому периодически нгуэнделенго возвращаются в те деревни, которые они когда то на время покинули.
Вторая причина — их близость к племени мукубал, прежде всего языковая. И хотя язык у нгуэнделенго свой, они и мукубал прекрасно понимают друг друга. Отсюда наличие перекрёстных браков между представителями этих племён. Раньше такие браки не допускались, но теперь стали нормой. Как результат, мукубал ассимилируют нгуэнделенго, что ведёт к исчезновению культуры последних.
Как и другие племена Анголы, нгуэнделенго примечательны своими уникальными прическами. Мальчики все ещё поддерживают (в очень редких случаях) культуры ношения ирокезов, а женщины заплетают в волосы смесь из перемолотой древесной коры и масла из ядра фрукта мупеке. Такая прическа держит форму до трёх недель.
Всё это и дикий ландшафт гор Леба, бесконечно напоминающий мне горы Алантика на границе Камеруна и Нигерии, делают нгуэнделенго одним из наиболее интересных племен в Анголе.
Мы движемся дальше, на юго-восток, в направление территории расселения племен ханда и мумуила.

🇦🇴THE DISAPPEARING NGUENDELENGO TRIBE. ANGOLA👩🏾🦱
Dear friends, Mzungu is in touch.
Our international expedition team 🇷🇺🇩🇪🇷🇸🇭🇺🇺🇸 continues our journey through southern Angola.
We climbed into the Leba Mountains, where there are villages of the Nguendelengo tribe scattered about 2,000 meters high.
Despite the large number of villages, most of them are empty, and the total Nguendelengo population barely exceeds 300 people.
There are two main reasons for this.
The first is their main way of farming. Simultaneously cattlers and mountain farmers have to move frequently, practicing shifted cultivation, occasionally leaving their fields "fallow". Therefore, from time to time the Nguendelengo return to the villages they once left for a time.
The second reason is their closeness to the Mucubal tribe, first of all linguistic. Although the Nguendelengo have their own language, they and the Mucubal understand each other very well. This is why there are cross marriages between these tribes. In the past, such marriages were not allowed, but now they are the norm. As a result, the Mucubal assimilate the Nguendelengo, which leads to the disappearance of the Nguendelengo culture.
Like other Angolan tribes, the Nguendelengo are remarkable for their unique hairstyles. Boys still maintain (on very rare occasions) the iroques wearing culture, and women braid a mixture of ground tree bark and oil from the kernel of the mupeke fruit into their hair. Such a hairstyle holds its shape for up to three weeks.
All this and the wild landscape of the Leba Mountains, which reminds me the Atlantica Mountains on the Cameroon-Nigeria border, make the Nguendelengo one of the most interesting tribes in Angola.
We move further southeast, in the direction of the Handa and Mumuila tribal territories.

Наша экспедиция переместилась в долину Камувиу, населенную племенем мвила (или муила, или мумуила), пожалуй, самым культовым для фотографов и, безусловно, визитной карточкой Анголы.
У ангольских племен банту принято в наименовании каждой этнической группы использовать приставку «му», что означает «народ, люди».
Мумуила — традиционные скотоводы и земледельцы, были подвергнуты значительному западному влиянию во времена позднего колониализма.
Часть из них ушла в горы, чтобы сохранить свою традиционную культуру.
На сегодняшний день выделяются две подгруппы одного народа, объединённых одним общим языком — равнинные мумуила и горные мумуила.
Они различаются некоторыми деталями их традиционного костюма и степенью сохранения традиционной культуры, которая у горных мвила выше.
Помимо массивных украшений из бисера и раковин (напоминающих по размерам ожерелья ньянгатом в Долине Омо), мвила щедро вымазывают 4 заплетенных косы смесью из охры, перемолотой в порошок древесины особого дерева, обладающего клейкими свойствами, и топленого животного масла. Прическа у мвила не зависит от возраста, и эти косы заплетают и детям в том числе. Наличие таких кос (вместо четырёх традиционно) говорит о том, что женщина находится в трауре по случаю потери близкого родственника.

Our expedition has moved to the Kamuviu Valley, inhabited by the Mwila (or Muila, or mumhuila) tribe, perhaps the most iconic for photographers and certainly the hallmark of Angola.
The Angolan Bantu tribes commonly use the prefix "mu" in the name of each ethnic group, which means "people".
The Mumhuila being traditional cattlers and farmers, have been subjected to substantial Western influence during the time of late colonialism.
Some of them migrated to the mountains to preserve their traditional culture.
Two subgroups of the same people, united by a common language, are distinguished today: the Plain Mumhuila and the Mountain Mumhuila.
They differ in some details of their traditional costume and the degree of maintaining their traditional culture, which is higher in the mountain muwila.
In addition to the massive bead and shell jewelry (reminiscent in size of the Nyangatom necklaces in the Omo Valley), the Mwila generously anoint their four plaits with a mixture of ochre, powdered wood from a special tree with sticky properties, and melted animal oil. Mwila hairstyles do not depend on age, and these plaits are braided for children as well. The presence of such plaits (instead of the traditional four) indicates that the woman is in mourning for the loss of a close relative.
We continue southeast, into the area where the Mugambe, San Bushmen, and alien Humbi tribes live.

In addition to the massive bead and shell jewelry (reminiscent in size of the Nyangatom necklaces in the Omo Valley), the Mwila generously anoint their four plaits with a mixture of ochre, powdered wood from a special tree with sticky properties, and melted animal oil. Mwila hairstyles do not depend on age, and these plaits are braided for children as well. The presence of such plaits (instead of the traditional four) indicates that the woman is in mourning for the loss of a close relative.
We continue southeast, into the area where the Mugambe, San Bushmen, and alien Humbi tribes live.

Неделю назад мы вернулись из Южного Судана! Понравилась ли поездка? Оправдала ли она ожидания? Как все прошло? Ответ кроется в бомбических снимках нашего тимлидера Марии Колосовой!
Это одна из наших самых крутых африканских экспедиций! 🤩 Все вернулись домой счастливые, да ещё и с уникальным контентом) Племя мундари продолжает удивлять наших путешественников: неизбалованные, никогда не видевшие себя в зеркале люди каменного века, охотно идут на контакт и с неподдельным интересом разглядывают себя на фотографиях. Удивительно!
Помимо мундари, удалось познакомиться с представителями ларим, лопит, лотуко и дидинга - все было гармонично, весело и дружно. 😊
Мы даже внесли свою лепту и подарили аккумулятор и солнечный инвертор местному племени, чтобы на, так называемой, парламентской площади, где проводят собрания, советы и свадьбы был свой источник питания. ⚡️
Потчевали нас вкусно, спали сладко, снимали с удовольствием!

A week ago we returned from South Sudan! Did we enjoy the trip? Did it fulfill those expectations? How was it? The answer lies in the stunning photos by our team leader Maria Kolosova.
It is one of our coolest African expeditions. 🤩 The Mundari tribe continues to amaze our travelers. The Stone Age people who have never seen themselves in a mirror, are eager to get in touch with us and watch themselves on pictures with genuine interest. Amazing!
In addition to the Mundari, we were able to meet representatives of Larim, Lopit, Lotuko and Didingo - everything was harmonious, fun and friendly.
We even did our part and donated a battery and solar inverter to the local tribe, so that the so-called parliamentary square, where meetings, councils and weddings are held, would have its own power source.
We ate good, slept sweet, and took pictures with joy!

1️⃣ Ларим прокалывают нос и губы, наносят шрамы на тело и считаются обладателями самых изощренных шрамов во всей Африке. Чем больше шрамов, тем раньше выходишь замуж и больше коров получает семья.
2️⃣ Дидинга употребляют в пищу свежую кровь из шеи крупного рогатого скота, которую добывают с помощью миниатюрных стрел, а также приносят жертвы духам и придают большое значение поклонению умершим предкам.
3️⃣ Люди племени лопит (донге) до сих пор иногда практикуют массовую традиционную охоту на крупных животных, таких как жирафы или слоны. Во время такой групповой охоты объединяются до 2000 мужчин!
4️⃣ Племя Лотуко, населяющее район горы Имотонг – самой высокой горы в Южном Судане. Их горным царством правит король-жрец.
5️⃣ Скотоводы мундари - самые высокие люди на планете, которые практикуют ритуальное шрамирование, как обряд перехода молодых людей во взрослую жизнь.

🇸🇸 SOUTH SUDAN: ETHNIC EXPEDITION TO THE FIVE TRADITIONAL TRIBES OF THE YOUNGEST STATE IN THE WORLD
5 tribes - 5 unique stories:
1️⃣ Larim pierce their nose and lips, scar the body and are considered as owners of the most sophisticated scars in whole Africa. The more scars, the sooner you get married and the more cows the family gets.
2️⃣ Didinga consume fresh blood from the neck of cattle with miniature arrows. They also offer sacrifices to spirits and place great importance to the worship of deceased ancestors.
3️⃣ The people of the Lopit (Donge) tribe still practice sometimes a massive traditional hunting of big animals, such as giraffes or elephants. During such a group hunt, up to 2000 men unite!
4️⃣ The Lotuko tribe inhabits the area of Mount Imotong, the highest mountain in South Sudan. Their mountain kingdom is ruled by a priest-king.
5️⃣ Mundari cattle breeders are the tallest people on the planet. They practice ritual scarring as a rite of passage into adulthood for young people.
