🎧 Infinity Ward pulled back the curtain on the sound and music behind Modern Warfare 4

The score is handled by composer Stephen Barton — the man behind the music for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends, who also worked on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. For MW4 he's reunited with Harry Gregson-Williams, the same duo that scored the original CoD4 back in 2007

Separately, the team showcased their sound design in the "From the Ward" video series: real field recordings of weapons and explosions, plus Microsoft's Triton audio tech, which computes how sound reflects off map geometry — so you can actually hear where shots are coming from mid-fight

Audio director Stephen Miller stressed it's not just ear candy — sound is being built as a gameplay tool that feeds directly into multiplayer balance

📣 Xbox has started notifying Game Pass subscribers: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 won't be part of the subscription on launch day. Want to play October 23rd? You'll need to buy it separately

This follows April's Game Pass overhaul post Microsoft–Activision Blizzard deal: subscription got cheaper, but new CoD titles no longer launch day-one in the library. MW4 won't hit Game Pass until roughly a year later — Holiday 2027, right around when the next entry drops

On the cosmetics front — Infinity Ward has publicly promised: no "clowny" skins, no celebrity crossovers (RIP Lady Gaga and SpongeBob operators). Just things that won't break military-shooter immersion

🤩 First look at Kill Block

The map is built from three "slabs" that shuffle into random combinations before each match — at launch there are over 500 unique configurations. So the same Kill Block can be a warehouse one round, open field the next, a maze the one after — a strategy that worked in the last game might not work in the next one

Kill Block is inspired by retractable stadium systems (like the one in Real Madrid) — the same idea that lets a venue transform for different events, just in multiplayer form

Technically Infinity Ward could have gone up to 900 slabs, but they're starting with 500 — all pre-loaded to keep the game smooth

Infinity Ward has released a new episode of the From The Ward series, focusing on weapon development for Modern Warfare 4 🎮
