Paralysis of Respiratory muscle leads to Peripheral asphyxia
Depression of the respiratory centresin the medulla oblongata (brain stem) leads to Central asphyxia
دكتور سالم و بوخشيم يجيبوا في النوع هذا من الأسئلة مع السموم الي عطوها كل فصل آو فصلين
و هو سؤال مش صعب
لذلك ركزوا على تاثير السم هل
Central or peripheral لما تقروا
سؤال مش مباشر لكن ما يضيع من حد المفروض بعد هذا التنبيه
وراه يجي حتى في العملي زمان

✨Introduction of toxicology
🟩The word “toxicology” comes from the Greek word for poison (toxicon) and scientific study (logos).
🟩Definition of toxicology is " the study of the adverse effects of chemicals or
physical agents on living organisms- usually the human body
🟩A toxicologist is a scientist that determines the harmful effects of agents and the cellular, biochemical, and molecular mechanisms responsible for the effects
🟩What is Toxicity?
describes the degree to which a
substance is poisonous or can cause injury.
Toxicity can result from adverse at many levels as following:
1- cellular.
2- biochemical.
3- macromolecular.
🟩The toxicity depends on:
dose, duration and route of exposure, shape and structure of the chemical itself, and individual human factors.
🟩toxicity of a substance depends on the following :
1- ability to be absorbed
2- metabolism
3- distribution within the body
4- excretion
5- presence of other chemicals.
🟩Types of toxicity:
1-Acute Toxicity: occurs almost immediately (hours/days) after an exposure
2-Subchronic Toxicity Toxicity: results from repeated exposure for several weeks or months .
3-Chronic Toxicity: represents cumulative damage to specific organ systems and takes many months or years to become a recognizable clinical disease.
4-Carcinogenicity: cancer or tumor causing toxins.
5-Developmental Toxicity Toxicity: pertains to adverse toxic effects to the developing embryo or fetus, leading to abnormal organ development
6-Genetic Toxicity (somatic cells): results from damage to DNA and
altered genetic expression.

🟩Poisoning is contact with a substance that results in toxicity.
🟩Clinical Toxicology is concerned with diseases and illnesses associated with short term or long term exposure to toxic chemicals
♦️the five major modes of presentation in the toxicology patient (Coma, Cardiac arrhythmia, metabolic acidosis, Gastrointestinal disturbances, and seizures)
🟩Toxic materials are substances that may cause harm to an individual if it enters the body
🟩A systemic toxin
is one that affects the entire body or many organs rather than a specific
site " potassium cyanide"
🟩A specific toxin affect only specific tissues or organs while not producing damage to the body as a whole "benzen"
♦️Poisoning According to their selective toxicity on organs:
1- Cardiac poisons: Digoxin & benzene.
2-Liver poisons: Phosphorus and carbon tetrachloride
3- Kidney poisons: Mercury & phenol
4- Lung poisons: Metal dusts or fumes
5- GIT: Arsenic
6- CNS: Strychnine, and atropine
🟩Types of organ specific toxic effects are:
♦️-Blood/Cardiovascular Toxicity
♦️-Dermal/Ocular Toxicity
♦️-Genetic Toxicity (germ cells)
♦️-Hepatotoxicity
♦️-Immunotoxicity: realtes to the immune system:
hypersensitivity (allergy and autoimmunity), immunodeficiency, and uncontrolled proliferation (leukemia and lymphoma).
♦️-Nephrotoxicity: is toxicity to the kidneys
♦️-Neurotoxicity: represents toxicant damage to cells of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and the peripheral nervous system (nerves outside the CNS).
♦️-Reproductive Toxicity: involves toxicant damage to either the male or female reproductive system.
♦️-Respiratory Toxicity: relates to effects on the upper respiratory system (nose, pharynx, larynx, and trachea) and the lower respiratory system (bronchi, bronchioles, and lung alveoi).
