*WAXING AND WANING OF ULAMA*
*🔴OPEN LETTER TO WIFAQUL-ULAMA REGARDING DHUL QA'DAH MOON SIGHTING*
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.
Praise be to Allah, Salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ.
Alhamdulillah, that JUSA, UUCSA and Wifaqul Ulama retracted their original statements regarding the moon sighting for Dhul Qa'dah and agreed that Sunday was the first.
Similarly, in the Haramain, initial statements were retracted and Sunday was accepted as the first. Thus, we are all agreed now that Sunday was the first of Dhul Qa'dah. We thank Allahu Ta'ala for that.
However, we would appreciate more transparency from Wifaqul Ulama regarding the process that led to this debacle.
The following points should be addressed with urgency:
1️⃣The witnesses' letters: both were in Actonville, Benoni. One was signed at 6.07 pm and the other, at 6.08 pm. That was about 10 or 15 minutes after Maghrib yet, Wifaqul Ulama announced, before 7 pm, that the moon was *not* sighted.
Were the witnesses being dishonest?
Or the hilaal committee?
Or, was there a breakdown in communication between Naeem Yuseph - who signed the witness statements - and those who ultimately made the announcement?
Or did Mufti Motara consider it 'diplomatic' to deceive the public?
It's obvious that someone was being dishonest here.
The public needs to know the real truth if it is to trust the Ulama in future.
2️⃣Why did Wifaqul Ulama of Benoni not announce the sighting publicly?
Molvi Bilal Saber is an active member of Wifaqul Ulama. Why didn't he announce it? He is always very involved in their matters. What prevented him from announcing it to the public of Benoni and, generally, to the Ummah?
If he was muzzled - deliberately prevented - who muzzled him?
This should alarm us all as that is the behaviour of a Mafia, not an Ulama body.
3️⃣There was abundant evidence of the moon being sighted in our neighbouring countries. Two brothers in Groblershoop, Northern Cape - Brother Mahdi and Brother Ishaq - also saw the moon and their sighting was confirmed by Molvi Masood Parker.
Why did Wifaqul Ulama hesitate to accept their witnessing while accepting that of the two in Benoni, without reservations?
This vacillation, at a time when the public needs firm, decisive leadership, has dented Wifaqul Ulama's credibility and made it appear weak.
4️⃣It is indeed surprising that we speak about the Akabir of Ulama-e-Deoband but we are not following in their illustrious footsteps.
And if we are prepared to commit _khiyanat_- breach of trust - in such a matter, what about more serious issues regarding our Aqeedah and future events affecting the Ummah?
It is commonly said that 'politics makes strange bedfellows'.
Perhaps Wifaqul Ulama wanted to curry favour with UUCSA and JUSA regarding the moon issue? To accommodate and appease them in the name of 'unity'?
Unity is based on Haqq. We should never follow UUCSA or JUSA because the majority of individuals involved are corrupt.
5️⃣Imam al-Hasan al-Basri, the sage of the age, used to say, "The punishment for the Ulama is that their hearts will die".
He was asked, "What does it mean, 'the hearts will die'?
He said that they will say they're doing _khidmat_ - service of deen - but the primary objective is to obtain and attain the dunya. Are we not guilty of this in our Darul Ulooms, khankas and 'Islamic' organisations?
6️⃣Why doesn't Wifaqul Ulama issue an official fatwa stating that MBS is Murtad bin Shaytaan? Or offer even a mild condemnation of his flagrantly anti-Islamic conduct?
Are they holding back because of their visas or Iqama?
The public wants to know and it's a valid concern.
If we are the Ulama ul-Haqq and we want to follow the Ulama or Akabir of Deoband, then there should be clarity and decisive leadership in these matters.
7️⃣We hope and make fervent du'a that the Hilaal Committee of Wifaqul Ulama gets their act together because, thus far, it seems that they are working in cahoots with JUSA and UUCSA.

2️⃣We must accept the sightings from Groblershoop irrespective of the personalities involved, provided they are true and just Muslims - a minimum of two sane, responsible adults. We should leave aside our personal grudges, malice and hatred.
May Almighty Allah grant us the ability to always embrace the truth and not look for expediency; not to curry favour with our sponsors, mureeds and blind followers.

All praise be to Allah, Salutations upon Nabi Muhammad ﷺ.
We appreciate the fact that UUCSA and JUSA retracted their original statements regarding the moon sighting for Dhul Qa'dah and, subsequently, agreed that Sunday was the first, Alhamdulillah.
However, an obvious question stares us in the face: how did your Ulama issue a statement of 'no sighting' before 7 pm, when two brothers from Hectorspruit registered their testimony *After Maghrib,* according to UUCSA's own records.
Who or what influenced the initial decision?
This type of conduct is more befitting actors in some soap opera than Ulama who claim to be representing the Muslim public.
In the interests of transparency, UUCSA and JUSA should explain their blatant dishonesty and deception. This should be followed by a sincere apology and a genuine commitment not to hoodwink the public in future.
Public trust in your respective organisations is already low. This debacle simply confirms your status as unreliable, dishonest, one-eyed leaders in the land of blind followers.
Remember that you will be held accountable for misleading the public and no amount of accolades will avail you.
