Under the rubble of destruction, I keep thinking—how many people are still trapped? It’s overwhelming and heartbreaking. Those abroad or working away from home are still searching for their families, commenting names on Facebook posts, desperately trying to find any information.

It’s been two days since the earthquake, and soon, the smell of decay will start spreading. The longer it takes, the harder it gets. With rescue teams and heavy machinery unable to reach certain areas, things are getting worse. Some places are only now beginning to receive help.

In Sagaing, reports say the military council bulldozed roads, making it difficult for heavy machinery to get through. Even when people want to help, providing assistance is nearly impossible. Sagaing city remains under military control.

I’m also looking for ways to ensure donations actually reach the people in need. I’ve been talking with some groups, but even when funds are raised, getting them to the right place is another challenge.

Payment systems have always been difficult—now, it’s even worse. Even those who genuinely want to help are facing obstacles.

At the same time, scammers are everywhere. People are eager to help, sharing everything they come across. Because of this, fake donation posts are spreading, using images from Sagaing or Mandalay, pretending to be firsthand accounts to collect money.

In the middle of all this, you might also see groups gathering for rescue efforts. But be careful—human trafficking rings are active too. Many posts include links saying, “Register here, and we’ll pick you up.”

Some of these links come from fake accounts that had never posted anything before. Others belong to accounts filled with random game content or religious texts. There are so many suspicious accounts. Some links even lead to groups where people can be lured in—and once someone disappears, no one can save them.

The country is falling apart.
Please don’t share every link you see. At the very least, check the account that posted it. Look at their past 20 posts. Lately, it’s been difficult to verify anything because fake donation and earthquake-related posts are everywhere. Be extremely careful.

If you see posts with “Copy/Credit/CrdtoOriginalUploader,” don’t share them immediately. Just yesterday in Yangon, people rushed onto the streets because of misleading posts about upcoming earthquakes. Before sharing any news, wait at least 10 minutes and check who posted it.

If an unfamiliar group or person is calling for people to gather, be cautious. If at least three of your closest friends can’t confirm they’re legit, think twice. Ask around.

In three neighborhoods of the city, there’s a noticeable odor, but it’s not severe enough to require wearing masks.
A large rescue machine and a crane have been spotted in the city, along with around five independent rescue teams working on-site.

A Chinese rescue team has also been seen in the area. As of 2:00 PM, witnesses report that they have moved towards Sagaing Hill.

According to ground reports, the estimated death toll has surpassed 200, with around 80% of residential buildings and five religious structures (mosques) affected.

Additionally, these figures are based on visible areas, so the actual numbers may vary as more information comes in.

For those who contributed to the direct donations to Sagaing yesterday, here’s an update: aid reached four neighborhoods, helping at least 1,200 people. The main supplies distributed included dried noodles, water, and electrolyte drinks.

A letter from my very good friend in Sein Pann neighbourhood, Mandalay.

The outskirts of Mandalay are badly affected, but our area, Sein Pan, is even worse. I lost four family members when our house collapsed.

Rescue teams are mostly focused on well-known areas, while places like ours are being left behind.

They didn’t bring a bulldozer to clear the rubble until around 5 PM. By then, it was too late. My little sister’s body was severed in two. One of my aunts lost an arm—we had to search for missing limbs. Another aunt’s stomach was torn open.

My younger brother was the only one we could recover intact, thanks to the neighbors. But he didn’t make it—he died halfway because of a ruptured artery in his head. We had to carry him back.

There are still bodies trapped in Sein Pan. I know that U Aung Myint Kyaw, who worked in industrial labor on Sein Pan Main Road, hasn’t been found yet. It’s still dangerous out there.

A high-rise condo hasn’t been cleared either, and after another earthquake yesterday, it’s tilting even more. Communication is terrible, so this is just what I know so far—there are still so many people unaccounted for.

မန္တလေးနဲ့ စစ်ကိုင်းပြီးရင် လူတွေ ကျော်သွားမိတာ သတိမမူတာက အမရပူရပါပဲ။

အားလုံး လမ်းပေါ်ထွက်အိပ်နေကြရတော့ ဖြစ်တဲ့ညတုန်းကဆို ဆိုင်ကယ်တွေ ခိုးခံရတယ်။ ဒေသခံပြောတာဆို အစီး ၂၀ ကျော်လောက်ပါသွားတယ်ပြောပါတယ်။ အိမ်တွေလည်း ဖောက်ထွင်းခံရတယ်လို့ ဆိုတယ်။

မနေ့ကဆို သံတို သံစ ကောက်တဲ့လူတွေက ပြိုပျက်နေတဲ့အိမ်တွေကို ဝင်ချင်သလိုဝင် ထွက်ချင်သလိုထွက်ပြီး ကောက်နေကြတယ်လို့ ဆိုတယ်။ တားနိုင်တဲ့သူလည်း မရှိပါဘူးတဲ့။

ငလျင်ဖြစ်နေတဲ့အထဲ ရွာသားတွေစုပြီး ကင်းလှည့်ရသေးတယ်ဆိုတယ်။ ရွာသားတွေကလည်း ငလျင်ဒဏ်လည်း ခံရ၊ ပစ္စည်းတွေလည်း ခိုးခံရတော့ အကုန်ဒေါသထွက်နေကြလေတော့ မျက်နှာသစ်မြင်ရင် အမြင်မကြည်တော့ပါဘူးတဲ့။

တနေ့ကလည်း လူ ၃ ယောက်ဖမ်းမိတယ်လို့ ဆိုတယ်။ ဒါကြောင့် အသွားအလာတွေလည်း ဂရုစိုက်ပေးကြဖို့ဆိုပြီး လှမ်းပြောပါတယ်။

ရွာသားတွေက ဝမ်းပျက်ဝမ်းလျှောဖြစ်မှာကို ကြောက်နေကြတယ်လို့ ဆိုပါတယ်။ သောက်သုံးရေက အကြီးအကျယ် ပြဿနာရှိနေပြီလို့ ပြောပါတယ်။

စစ်ကိုင်းနဲ့ မန္တလေးရောက်တဲ့ ကူညီရေးအဖွဲ့တွေ အဆင်ပြေတယ်ဆိုရင်ဖြင့် အမရပူရဘက်ကိုလည်း လှည့်သွားပေးဖို့ လှမ်းပြောကြပါတယ်။

After Mandalay and Sagaing, the place people often overlook is Amarapura.
On the night when everyone had to sleep outside, several motorcycles were stolen. Locals say more than 20 bikes went missing. Some houses were also broken into.

Yesterday, scrap collectors were seen freely entering and leaving damaged houses, taking whatever they could find. No one was there to stop them.

In the midst of the earthquake crisis, villagers had to take turns patrolling their neighborhoods. Having already suffered from the quake and now dealing with theft, frustration is running high. People are starting to distrust strangers.

The other day, three suspects were caught. That’s why locals are urging everyone to stay alert and be cautious when moving around.

There's growing concern among villagers that things could get worse. The lack of clean drinking water is becoming a major problem.

If relief teams in Sagaing and Mandalay are managing well, they’re being asked to extend their support to Amarapura as well.
