While index heavyweight IT stocks, Infosys, TCS and HCLTech, were among the major contributors to the upmove in the Nifty 50, other significant gainers included Bajaj Auto, NTPC and ONGC.

The Nifty Realty index was the brightest spark in the afternoon after advancing over one percent. Stocks such as DLF, Prestige Estates, Brigade Enterprises and Oberoi Realty kept the sentiment in the sector upbeat.

The Nifty Auto index surged over 1 percent after a sharp rally in two-wheeler companies mainly Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp, and TVS Motors.

NSE Nifty hit record high to top 25,100 points for the first time ever. Broader markets added to yesterday's gains, with mid and small-cap indices continuing to shine, rising 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent respectively.

The broader market showed a mixed trend, with the midcap index down 0.5 percent, while the smallcap index edged up 0.2 percent.
