Microchip Reports US$1.1 Bil. Net Sales

Microchip Technology reported first-quarter net sales and profit above analyst expectations. The chipmaker posted net sales of US$1.1 billion, ahead of estimates, and profit of 27 cents per share, compared with expectations of 24 cents. For the second quarter, Microchip forecast net sales between US$1.1 billion and US$1.2 billion, in line with the analyst average. It projected adjusted earnings per share of 30 to 36 cents, with the midpoint above estimates. Shares fell 6% in extended trading after the forecast.
