Autonomous Vehicles to be brought to New York
Waymo, the self-driving car company born out of Google, has announced that it is bringing its autonomous vehicles to New York City starting next month. Unlike in Los Angeles, Phoenix, or San Francisco, where Waymo's robotaxis operate without a human driver, the company will comply with New York’s stricter regulations by keeping a person behind the wheel. Waymo revealed that it has officially applied for a permit from New York City’s Department of Transportation. While awaiting approval, Waymo plans to manually drive its vehicles around the city to begin mapping and testing.
