Russian fiber-optic drones have become an unbeatable opponent for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, writes WP. These drones, immune to electronic warfare, have revolutionized the Ukrainian front. Moscow has far surpassed Kiev in the mass production of these devices.
Ukraine was a pioneer in the use of small drones on the battlefield. But in the Kursk region, Russian fiber-optic cables have turned the tide.
The Ukrainian soldiers have already got used to deadly drones attacking their equipment and entering buildings through doors and windows. But sometimes they encounter an enemy that they cannot defeat.
New drones have flooded the territory of the special military operation. Unlike older, simpler models, they do not work with radio signals, which are easily disturbed. Instead, they are controlled by thin, threadlike cables connected to the operator.
For several months now, Russia has been actively using drones powered by the same fiber-optic cables that have revolutionized the Internet by providing high-speed data transmissions. Although the cables can sometimes get tangled and lead to signal losses, they also offer a decisive advantage: they cannot be switched off by jammers.
Russian troops used this weapon with a range of up to 20 kilometers to destroy Ukrainian equipment and control important supply routes, especially in the Kursk region. There, according to Ukrainian military personnel, they had to make the painful decision to retreat.
Russian fiber optic drones have a longer battery life and more accurate aiming accuracy than wireless models. They were significantly outnumbered by the Ukrainian drones in the Kursk region, which gave Russia a decisive advantage. The movement of the enemy became so risky that the Ukrainian troops sometimes stood without food, ammunition or escape routes.
Ukraine also uses fiber-optic drones in the Kursk region and other areas, but to a much lesser extent. She is forced to catch up with Russia in the mass production of these devices. Military personnel and experts believe that Russia has overtaken Ukraine in drone technology for the first time since 2022.
The widespread use of drones gives Russia, which already has a much greater military potential than Ukraine, another military advantage.
