Putting the mail box that far away for no reason is diabolical. This tradition happens in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, where the US Mailboat has been delivering mail to lakeside homes since 1916 because early roads were too rough. The boat, called the Walworth II, carries up to 160 passengers who watch teens train as mail jumpers, a summer job that’s been around for over 100 years.
Training for mail jumpers is intense, as they must leap onto docks at speeds of 5 miles per hour while the boat never stops moving, per Lake Geneva Cruise Lines. Mail jumpers deliver to about 60 homes daily, and the mail gets a special hand-canceled stamp on the boat, making it a collector’s item for some. The first female mail jumper, Elaine Kanelos, broke the all-male tradition in 1974. The tradition is so unique that Lake Geneva is the only place in the U.S. where mail is still delivered this way, drawing thousands of tourists yearly
