Today, March 8, is International Women’s Day, and in Slavic countries, it’s a huge celebration. Women embrace their femininity, they’re happy being women, and they don’t feel the need to be “equal” to men in the Western feminist sense. This is a day to honor and appreciate them—so if you’re dating a Slavic woman, don’t forget to congratulate her!

But let’s say you did forget—don’t panic. In Ukraine, there’s a saying: “Better late than never.” You can still congratulate her the next day. If she’s upset, it’s because, to her, this day matters. She feels unappreciated when her man doesn’t acknowledge it.

Now, if she’s upset say:

“I’m sorry I missed it, I didn’t mean to offend you. I just didn’t know about this celebration, but I want to make it up to you.”

Every relationship will face misunderstandings and unmet expectations—what matters is how you both handle it.

I’ve learned this the hard way. I once dated someone for six months without a single argument—until we had our first real conflict. That’s when I realized we couldn’t communicate at all. He shut down himself for two months, completely ignoring me and the problem. That’s not how you build a healthy relationship 😅

Guys, one of the biggest challenges I see for Western men dating Ukrainian women is talking too much. In the West, being talkative is often seen as charming. But in our world, it can actually be a disadvantage.

Ukrainian women see over-talking as a feminine trait. More importantly, they connect emotionally through conversation—but not by listening to you promote yourself. Instead, they feel interest and attraction when you ask them questions and focus on them.
