More people today are choosing to change their profession several times during their working lives.

What are the reasons for this?

Is it a positive or negative development?

More and more people these days prefer to pursue different career paths rather than have a lifetime job. This trend can generally be linked to two reasons, and I believe it is a change for the better.

Arguably, the most common reason why people alter their occupation multiple times is perceived low pay. That is, most people tend to assume their salary is satisfactory when it does not afford them the lifestyle they desire. Owning a luxury car, going on several vacations every year, eating out at expensive restaurants are some examples of lifestyle features they think they can afford once they switch to a better-paid job. Easy access to the online job market has also made it job-hopping commonplace. With the help of the Internet, people now can try online jobs such as social media content creation, affiliate marketing and online services. Since these forms of jobs are more convenient and less-stressful than traditional jobs, people are very likely to make a career shift in favor of the former.

Having shed light on the reasons behind a growing trend towards job-hopping, I will now explain why I believe it is a positive development. Firstly, changing one’s career frequently can help improve job satisfaction. This is because only by trying different occupations can people find a job which fulfills their career expectations such as decent working conditions, supportive coworkers and most importantly, a satisfactory pay. Only when these expectations are met, employees feel content and fulfilled in their place of work. Secondly, trying new jobs creates chances for personal growth. People can improve their personal skills such as problem solving and communication when they embark on a new career path. They also become more open-minded and adaptable in the process of adjusting to a new workplace environment, which is critical to their overall personal growth.

In conclusion, an unsatisfactory salary and the growing popularity of internet jobs underlie the increasing trend of job-hopping, and I tend to think it is a positive development seeing as it boosts job satisfaction and aids in personal growth.

Nowadays people depend on technology in their free time.
Is this a positive or negative development?

People are increasingly using technology in their leisure time. There are some positive effects associated with this change, such as instant access to entertainment and chance for staying connected. However, this development is mostly negative as it can lead to sedentary lifestyle and addiction.

With technology, whole new types of entertainment are at our fingertips. People can watch movies, play games, listen to music, and surf social media from the comfort of their home. By contrast, alternative ways, such as going to the cinema, concerts, and playing outdoor games, would require time, money and energy. Another positive is the opportunity to socialize. Whether it be talking to a relative, sending a video to a friend, or checking up on colleagues, the internet allows people to keep in touch despite geographical boundaries.

Despite this, I tend to view this trend negatively. The main concern is the health issues that may result from spending too much time with technology. When people use technology in their free time, they naturally spend less time on exercise. The lack of physical activity has long been associated with several health problems, ranging from poor posture to more severe conditions like obesity and eye sight deterioration. Even worse, people can form addiction. The excessive usage of the internet in free time, for example, can lead to dependence on it. As a result, the urge to check notifications while working or studying can result in divided attention, ultimately impacting people’s overall productivity.

In conclusion, technology does offer some benefits for those who use it in their free time, such the easy access to entertainment and socializing. That said, the overall impact of such a habit is undesirable as it can affect people’s physical as well as mental well-being.
