Muslims and Voting
In the name of Allah. As election night approaches, there is a noticeable increase in the voices encouraging "civic participation" and urging Muslims to cast their votes, reminding them the whole time that the consequences of not voting in this election can be dire. Even those not bold enough to openly call for participation promote it quietly by sharing links and selfies, or simply reminding people that this is a "personal choice".
A reminder with the advice of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, to Abu 'Ubaydah, may Allah be pleased with him: "We are a people whom Allah honored through Islām. Whenever we seek honor elsewhere, Allah will humiliate us."
Where is this passion when shirk, bid'ah, and disobedience are rampant in our communities? Are not the consequences of our disobedience to Allah and our abandonment of His path plain to see?
Our success lies not in what others do, but in what we do not. Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change their own condition (Surat ar-R'ad)
