Marble survival season 2…

I like this season, but to me it’s inferior to season 1 by a long shot. Just feels like it’s ending too quickly, one wrong move or stupid track defect is an automatic elimination, marbles getting launched of the course, traps suck this year, and no points system. I don’t really care about SMR either, probably not watching this upcoming season of Marbula 1 due to all of the BS from last season, and with this season of Marble Survival not living up to it’s predecessor, the only JMR competition that I really care about is the Marble League, but the O’rangers hosting makes my blood boil. This is really just a rant as I’m not in a great mood right now (not asking for sympathy or special attention) but with this season not being as good as the last, JMR really needs to replace this with something better. Either that or stop having every M1 race have a BS red flag.

Comparing Marble Survival Season 1 and 2 and suggestions for Season 3

As a big fan of Marble Survival, I really liked both seasons. However, I believe S1 was better than S2.

The only good thing about this season is the addition of priority lane (making first place worth it) and the fact that sudden elimination makes every race important for every marble. Because in previous season, u knew after the first 3 or 4 races of a week which marbles are in danger, meaning u could essentially ignore the rest of the field.

However, MS S1, actually felt like a survival/endurance test b/c of its length and daily races. Moreover, it prioritised consistency over top place finishes making it unique as other JMR comps prioritise top place finishes over consistency (sometimes P1 earns double points as P4!). I suppose u could argue this iteration still prioritises consistency, but I wont say so as u could be up and down and still survive as long as u dont finish last OR finish last and someone DNFs.

Futhermore, the points system allowed for different comebacks and stories to be told. Like Purple Rockets' miraculous comebacks in R42 and R96, Swax's comeback in R77, Thunderbolts and ORangers pretty much barely surviving multiple weeks etc. This made S1 more memorable. I also really enjoyed the daily JMR videos.

My biggest gripe with this season, however, is the fact that most eliminations have been due to DNF which makes it feel random. Previous season, if u DNFd, u had a chance for redemption (unless it was in last race like Green Ducks in week 6, but in that case u could just say they should have done better beforehand as was the case with RR in week 10 as they DNFd but still had enough points to proceed). This season, u could be doing great, but then something happens and its all over which makes it feel like a lottery (case in point, Diamond).

For this reason, I propose that S3 should combine the best of S1 and S2:

1. Give us daily races
2. Retain the priority lane for first place of previous 'week'
3. Bring back the points system and 'weekly' eliminations.
4. I understand from JMR POV that 100 races were a production challenge and clogged the calendar so I think they should shorten weeks to 4 races (kinda like the half weeks from the end of S1). After 13 such 'weeks' (52 races), we have 6 marbles left and we can then have single elimination like we did for last 5 marbles in S1. This makes for a total of 57 races meaning competition is still long enough to feel like a survival/endurance test without it being a production challenge. The weeks being smaller also makes every race more important but at the same time, its not just 1 race so the randomness of this season gets removed.
5. Lastly, once marbles become lesser than 8, please use ghost marbles to keep the total racers 8. The ghost marbles' results wont be counted but it is necessary as the last races of last season often did not have traps being triggered.

Thoughts?

New fan, what do I need to learn?

I just discovered this today, and love it. I'm curious what videos I need to watch to understand the history and whatnot. I've already caught up with Marble Survival S2, but haven't watched anything else. So what do I need to catch up on to understand this all? Are there any rivalries I should know about? Any info would be appreciated.

On JMR's use of AI art in community posts

Over the years, I've come to accept I'm not going to agree with a lot of the decisions JMR makes business-wise. Which is fine. I just try to enjoy the content for what it is and look past what's happening behind the scenes. However, seeing this in my community feed made me genuinely mad, and I think JMR needs to be called out on it.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about: yesterday, JMR created a community post asking for any companies interested in sponsoring the upcoming ML25 to reach out to them. As part of that post, they included what appears to be an AI-generated image of John Oliver sitting at his desk. John Oliver, of course, famously sponsored ML20, so my impression is this is JMR trying to cash in on that years later.

There are a number of issues with this, such as JMR continuing to plead for sponsors in this manner and their use of John Oliver's likeness without his or HBO's permission. Those are issues worth their own discussions, but I'll save those for other posts. Today, I want to focus in specifically on JMR's decision to use AI-generated art in their promotional material. Their use of such art is an extremely poor look and badly misrepresents the brand of JMR.

First, I think I need to point out there is absolutely no reason to use AI art for this specific case. JMR could have just as easily pulled a screenshot of the video where John actually talks about the Marble League and pasted the ML25 sponsorship advert on top of where JMR is already being shown. (Or, you know, use literally any other frame of John sitting at his desk. There's only like 500 episodes to choose from...) My point here is this art does not accomplish anything that already existing material couldn't. This is using AI art for the sake of using AI art, plain and simple.

I think the bigger issue here is how promoting this artwork represents, or should I say, misrepresents what JMR is and what makes it appealing to so many people in the first place. I think it's fair to say that AI art goes against every single quality that makes JMR enjoyable to watch. The originality, creativity, and meticulous attention to detail of Jelle's craft is what has allowed the channel to prosper. AI art subverts every single one of these ideas. There is no care or love put into such art - it's just the product of a model trained off the real work of other people. Seeing AI art in JMR's feed makes me not want to see their posts, and I doubt I'm alone in that regard. And to top this off, I have a hard time believing any reputable sponsor will look at such art and think "yes, this is who I want to invest thousands of dollars in to promote my brand."

What I find most upsetting about this ordeal, though, is the neglect JMR is showing toward the very talented and devoted members of its community. This community is full of absolutely incredible artists and graphics designers, many of whom I'm sure would love the opportunity to create promotional material for JMR to use on their socials. Instead, JMR is choosing to push all of that genuine creative work aside in favor of AI-generated slop. Using AI art is generally insulting to real artists to begin with, but in this particular case, I find it particularly damning JMR doesn't see the value in having real people create real art to promote their business. I know the channel has had issues with paying people to create artwork for them, and I would have to infer their choice to use AI art being related to cost cutting. But it's quite obvious other creators and businesses see the value in having real artists do real work for them.

Overall, I'm extremely disappointed that JMR is using AI-generated artwork to represent their brand. I hope whoever is making decisions in this area takes a step back and seriously considers the kind of message being sent to the outside world by using such art. JMR and its community possess far too much creativity
No sand rally this year?

I saw Jelle's comment on his most recent post on his community tab replying to a comment that Marble League is next after Marble Survival, then after Marble league, it's Marbula 1. All of these three contain the Marble league teams, which will be disappointing for the sand rally competitors since this will be the fourth year which there will be no sand rally (there was a three year gap between S5 and S6, and then assuming another year between S7 and S8). So, is it gonna be Marble Survival, Marble League, then Marbula 1 for this year?

Chocolate Column 9: Fast and the Fudgiest

Fudge is in the top-15. Can they make the top-10 and even improve on the excellent result of Bonbon’s 8th place from last year? The next step in that journey begins now, but will my previous prophecy of 1 Thunderblog, 2 Duck Digests, and 3 Chocolate Columns come true? Well, I don’t know the result at the time I am typing these words but you know by the time you are reading them, so let’s cut to the chase.

Chocolate Column 9: The Prophecy does not come True

Fudge sneaks through nervously but Diamond gets stuck so no worries. In race two Fudge got knocked back and forward in the second race and finished a comfy 5th. In the penultimate race, Fudge wastes no time and gets going early. After avoiding the fidget spinner, they casually make it home to finish 7th. In the final race, Fudge does more than enough to survive after a slower start.

Other News

In other news, the fidget spinner was BULLYING some marbles. Swax, Sheet, Yellup, and more got nailed by the dangerous spinny boi.

Rezzy got stuck and broke Raspberry hearts so close to the end. What a shame for them.

With Rezzy being eliminated, another JMR giant has fallen. Mellow Yellow is the only established top team left in the field while past champions Pinkies and Midnight Wisps are around as well. Wispy and Misty would like to get their respective teams back to winning ways while the rest of the field wants to win a major event for the first time (Showdown doesn’t count, Indigo Stars)

Things are getting spicy as the weather gets better (at least in the northern hemisphere). Fudge is primed to crack the top-10 and possibly win the whole thing. This would be great for followers of my blogs (except u/peskybirb666 who hates Chocolate and all things sweet for some reason) to have a victory to cheer about. Let’s see if those dreams become closer to reality next time!
