A history of the J-35 stealth fighter, in pictures. The first image, the black-and-red 31001 Jet, was the technology demonstrator prototype shown to the PLA, initially called the FC-31 “Gyrfalcon”.

The second and third image in each picture shows the first flying prototype of the as of yet Un-revealed J-31/J-35 fighter jet.

The most recent, and lowest down image shows the completed J-31/5 350003 wing-number Stealth fighter jet for the new PLAN Fujian aircraft carrier.

The fighter jet’s name has been an interesting story in and of itself; initially sold as the FC-31, it’s name would change to J-31 to fit official Chinese naming designations within the Air Force (“J” is the Chinese equivalent of “F” in American fighter jet nomenclature; J referring to Jianjiji [歼击机] or, literally “Fighter Plane”.)

However as the jet as not officially been unveiled, many Chinese netizens took to referring to it as the J-35, as this is literally how the USA’s F-35 is translated.

Unidentified plane - not a passenger jet - just flew over the author of this post’s house in Wuchang District, Wuhan; over the Yangtze River.

It was slow moving, extremely loud, and had a visible searchlight-like beam on its nose, scanning the sky. Presumably some form of military reconnaissance plane.

Apologies for the grainy footage and the cigarette smoke.

GlobalTimes reports that the Eastern Theatre command has closed the sky to civilian airliners around Hainan island for 5 days, pursuant to ongoing military exercises that began today (August 1st) and will continue until August 6th.

The PLAN Shandong aircraft carrier - which Japanese media previously reported was “on the move” is taking part in these military exercises.

PLA armour videoed marshalling on the beaches of Dongshan Island, during recent military exercises.

Update: After some research, the vehicles seem to be ZTD-05 light-armoured amphibious IFV/Tanks (Some sources refer to this vehicle as an IFV, and others state it can be classified as a light tank). They are equipped with 105mm cannon.

Chinese Type-052C Destroyer “Changchun” (Hull Number 150) comes extremely close to ROC Frigate of the Cheng Kung Class during the live fire exercises near Kaohsiung Port.

The (so-called) ROC’s Navy is dangerously close to live fire exercises, and has not listened to Chinese warnings. There is a high chance that (so-called) ROC’s warships may be hit if they do not avoid these dangerously close confrontations.

A basic outline of the combat roles specified for various #PLA Air Force fighter jets; this is little-known information in the West:

In exercises pre-2018, the lead Air Superiority Fighters, usually the J -11, will sweep the skies ahead for incoming enemy planes and take them out with its long range air to air missiles.

The J -16 will meanwhile use its advanced air to ground capabilities to carry out precision strikes on land targets, while the J-10C behind them supports the J-16 whether in air to air combat or carrying out surface precision strikes.

As more J -20 aircraft entered service, the role of the lead Air Superiority Fighter was taken over by the J -20.

The J -20 with the most advanced AESA Radar among all will use its advanced sensors to detect incoming hostile aircraft and make full use of its great air to air combat capabilities to eliminate enemy threats.

The J-16, a long range multirole fighter, will then use its advanced air to ground offensive capabilities and high weapons payload capacity to launch long range precision strikes on hostile land based targets.

The J -10C will engage the few enemy aircraft which managed to slip through and also mop up whatever is left after the J -16 has completed its task.

The J-20, J-16 and J-10C, when operating together, demonstrated this new team formation which utilised the synergy between them to maximise their great combat potential. This meant a formation of J-20s, J-16s and J-10C working in unison, with the J-20s launching surprise attacks on enemy aircraft by capitalising on their stealth capabilities while the J-10C provides extra cover against enemies at close range. The J -10C with its thrust vectoring engines is arguably the most manoeuvrable among them all and super deadly in WVR air combat.

China’s 3rd Air craft carrier, and the second domestically built one, The People’s Liberation Army Navy Fujian, will commence Sea Trials in 2023.

This comes after the launching of the ship in June last year. The Fujian is China’s most powerful military asset, besides the nuclear rocket force.

This carrier is said to be comparable to the US Nimitz Class carriers, with similar hangar & deck sizes to the US Gerald R. Ford Class carriers.

The Fujian will carry J-35 Stealth fighters (China’s F-35B analogue), Anti-submarine warfare helicopters (Z-18F), modified versions of the old J-15B carrier fighters (designed to launch from the new CATOBAR launch catapult system) alongside Aerial Early Warning Aircraft (KJ-600) and numerous different Chinese-produced drones.

China’s PLA watches and learns from the Ukraine crisis: PLA 73rd Army practices warfare in the trenches. Not as sexy as maneuver warfare, but battles in the trenches seem to be a reality of the war in Ukraine.

73rd Chinese Army Group also exercises for amphibious assault. Small boats are not just easily hidden and cost effective, they are simple to operate and quite versatile. Supported by drones/missiles/aircraft/helicopters/paratroopers, they will be the key to a successful liberation of Taiwan Island.
