βοΈWho was Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri?
Saleh al-Arouri was a senior leader ofπ΄ #Hamas and co-founder of its military wing β the π΄ Ezz El-Din Qassam Brigades. He was also the Qassam Brigadesβ military commander of the occupied West Bank. He worked to directly strengthen the movementβs presence there by funding and planning operations to escalate resistance in the direction of the complete liberation of the occupied West Bank.
He has also recently been described as βone of the architects of the October 7 attack.β
In 1992, he was arrested by the Israeli army and spent 18 years in prison. In 2015, he was placed on the US list of terrorists. In 2017, he was elected deputy leader of the Hamas Political Bureau. Then, in 2018, the US State Department announced a $5 million reward for any information leading to his capture.
Arouri was a friend and colleague of late Qassam leader and commander Ahmed Jabari, and worked with him closely in planning and implementing βOperation Faithful To The Freeβ that resulted in the exchange of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners, among them Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar.
Arouri transcended Hamas β admired by all resistance factions, he was fully aligned with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, but also played an instrumental role in the axis of resistance as a whole, coordinating very closely with Hezbollah-Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah as well as Iranian officials in the Axis. He served as a crucial bridge between Hamas and Hezbollah, consolidating a firm relationship between the two movements.
Back in August, Netanyahu once again threatened Arouri β whom Israel blamed for the resistance operations being carried out in the West Bank. In response, Arouri told Al-Aqsa TV a few days later that assassination threats would not stop these operations.
On October 31, almost one month into Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, the Israeli army demolished his house in his hometown, Arura, Ramallah, as if to seek revenge and make a statement.
